Selling Question
I am making an app for webOS in which Shoutcast is just one of *many* features. As I was reading the license agreement, I noticed this line "You may not charge users a separate fee for the specific use of an Application." Does this mean that because just *one* of the features of the app is Shoutcast, I cannot charge for my application at all?

As I understand it, if you incorporate the Shoutcast.com directory feed within your Application, then you may not charge for that Application. Because, in effect you are re-selling a service you have no right to sell.
If you simply provide support for Shoutcast stream playback, you are under no obligation. Just my two cents. Powered by Redbull and Progressive House |

so, you think if all I incorporate is the search/play capability I'll be fine?

No, search is using their API and thats not something you can charge others for.
You can provide playback only. Powered by Redbull and Progressive House |

'playback only' is just referring to your decoding implementation for SHOUTcast streams as nothing is officially provided for the playback of streams on other platforms / players / apps so completely depends on how your app is going to work.
and being able to incorporate proper results from the Directory requires you to be part of the partner programme as per http://www.shoutcast.com/partner_request_form -daz |

but if I provide the search functionality, even if my app I open source, I cannot sell?
I'm probably not gonna include shoutcast then.. |

if you're just embedding the shoutcast.com page and offering that then you've probably no issues (though i could be wrong). it's if you're trying to do an integrated style of search which requires the partner's api to work then it gets all weird (though i think if you're a partner then selling it isn't an issue).
however i really don't know the exact details of the licensing and the link i provided has a contact address which would be the best place to try to get clarification on things (rather than is it / isn't posts in this forum which has been going on). -daz |
