This is boring (classic bento)

I started it because I thought it'd be easy, but it's taking too long to be worthwhile. Still, I figured I'd post it in case anyone else gets the same idea to make a classic version of the Bento skin (just like multiple people had the idea to make a classic version of the Winamp 5 skin). If anybody wants the elements I've made so far so they can try to finish it, let me know.

Isn't a classic version of Bento something of a contradiction of the name 'Bento' ?

Yes, in many of the same ways that a classic version of the Modern skin was a contradiction of the name "Winamp Modern."

Also, while I did slap a border around it (stupid gradients...), my original intention was to have the edges done in such a way that it looks like the bento skin when the windows are arranged the right way.

I dunno if I'm just masochistic, or what

I don't like how this looks, I'll never use it, and I'm not enjoying the process of making it, but I'm gonna keep on making it just because I can.

I realize that this is just an obligatory "not a video game skin" to fill the space between video game skins.

Hurry up and finish it, you have a captive audience of whiners crying out for a 'seperates' version of Bento, although surely you've have to call it something else once finished LOL

hahaha....

Will there be any support for the Bento color themes? I really hope to see this skin in the City Night and City Night 2 themes! Great work so far, keep it up! There are many, many people out there that appreciate your hard work.

I'd love to see a "classic" version of that skin. I like the look of Bento but I hate the SUI approach (though I realize it was the initial concept).

It would be cool if we could use the notifier with it

Anyway, good luck with it

Also, will there be a way to dock the equalizer below the main window and above the playlist editor much like the other classic skins?

It's a classic skin, it follows all the classic skin rules, it works the same as every other classic skin out there. No more no less.

And there is no support for colour themes in classic skins.

What is it you like about bento?, the look or the function?

Would you still like it if it was yellow with pink spots on?

What skin have you used for the last few years?

You do know what Bento is don't you by the way?, should give you a clue as to why it's named like it is...

I like both the look and function. The only thing I don't like about it really is the huge space for the media library. I don't find any of the tabs there really useful. If there were something else I could put there I'd definitely use it, but as it is it's just a waste of space for me.

Screw trying to make it remotely resemble the bento layout. You can arrange the windows however you like. Somebody wanna make the title text for each window?

Because I don't.

Also, Jones, you throw the word "Bento" around like it has some meaning in the English language. Not everybody is familiar with Japanese culture. I don't think I had ever heard the word more than a couple years ago.

That said, they could always Google it.

This skin is now codenamed "lunchables"

Completely agree. I like all the functions of Bento skin, but since it's not useful for me in current state (I use it for amateur DJing and I need to have the ability to only show large playlist window and main window and nothing more).

So I really like the idea of classic Bento skin and I encourage the author to keep working on it

First time in a long while that I've posted a skin as an attachment. I defy you to find any bugs. The skin is tentatively done, but I'll let it sit for a little while to see if anybody has any suggestions.

Well done man, much appreciated. If you could teach me the basics how (hehe) I could attempt at making those smaller changes (like on-click colour change for volume controller).

Either ways, this is looking great.

Why not make a Modern classic-looks Bento skin?
You could keep the functionality of it being a Modern skin, but the looks of a Classic skin.

Every time I think I understand what you meant, I lose it again. The whole point of this skin was to make it look like the original modern skin. Now you're suggesting someone make a modern skin based off this one? A modern version of the classic version of a modern skin seems a bit, uh... redundant.

edit: Looks like I got beaten to the punch, but I guess it's good to see that I'm not the only person who had that reaction.

Yea, but you could add colour themes, mute buttons, proper album art support, opacity, that funky vis, stretchable main windows, different ticker modes, a lightning bolt that actually does something and all with windows that don't stick together like the original Bento yada yada yada yada yada....

No, I'm not making it.

I guess I just don't see how "detachable windows" equates to "classic look." A separate-windows version of Bento would just be a hack to the Bento skin, and have nothing especially "classic-looks" about it... If that is all that YtseJam meant, I'll be disappointed, although I'll be confused either way.

It wouldn't take a rocket scientist too long to insert a hack into Bento as it stands to give it detachable functionality anyhow, I haven't studied it in any detail, but nothing is impossible I reckon...

I agree because the skin behaves as 4 seperate windows in terms of the "main" always stays the same playlist is resizable and automatically resizes the EQ/vis area.

The media libaray are bit, well that wouldnt be hard to replicate anyhow

Bravo to everyone who is helping to develop this. I love the look of Bento, however, not at all the SUI concept. I am genuinely happy for everyone who does - certainly there are many in that camp, from what I see. The point of it all escapes me, however, since there are so many other SUI players to choose from. For me, WINAMP has always forged its own path, and the functionality of previous WINAMP versions has been one of its best features. It's brilliant to be able to move componets like the playlist around; with Bento I feel trapped, and, in Applemacian fashion, compelled to accept (too many)things as they are. That said, Bento - like Macs - is of a beautiful look. The design finally improves WINAMP's previously not-quite-there status in terms of style and grace. Bento's interface is elegant, whereas its SUI factor is restrictive. And so, I applaud, once more, those of you who have made the effort to combine the mobility of yore with the look of today. Right proper job, everyone, and many, many thanks!

Brilliantly done, this. Thank you very much.

At the risk of being a pest...is it possible to make the player larger (without choosing double size in options).

Also, any way to add colour options? Would look deluxe in blue...

Sadly I can't even imagine how to make skins, so I can, for now, only give thanks and ask for a bit more of your creativity...please.
