tracks that work in VLC & WMP show as 0:00 in winamp
this is the first time this has happened to me and i have done a clean install of winamp already and it just did the same thing, if anyone knows whats going on or how i can get round it i'd love to know.
i thought the tracks were broken but they play fine in VLC and WMP i just don't want to use either of those as my media player thanks |

providing a small example file which shows the issue would be preferable.

DrO means to upload a file to a site like 4shared.com so he can test it himself, b4 you try to fix it.
mp3val is a program (google it) that fixes errors in mp3 headers that can cause the incorrect length issue you're reporting. do the songs otherwise play, and its just the length that's wrong? ERROR: "E:\Music\Culprate - The Great Expedition EP\01 Scarred.mp3": Unknown file format" !?!? it won't / can't fix it either and i have a dropbox link as well https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ui6mr4tc1bihons/2ZpSylgo6U |

ok, lets move forward then.
I DL'd your first file, and my beta would not play it either. WMP did. mp3tag can't even begin to figure it out tho. so my guess is it isn't a mp3 at all. try gspot or SUPER or MediaInfo to identify the actual codec used to create these files. they are programs that identify the codecs used to create audio and video files. your files are likely not mp3s, but something else and just mislabeled. winamp will probably play them once the right extension is on them, which the programs above will help you identify. just google em, like "mediainfo codec" etc

correct.
I renamed the file I DL'd to Scarred.m4a and it works in winamp fine. (m4a is basically the audio ver of a mp4) PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

yep, assuming all the broken ones are m4a's. winamp is just less tolerant (prob a good thing ultimately) than VLC or WMP of files that have mislabeled extensions.

you have to adjust your windows settings to show known extensions. its the extension you want to rename, not the filename itself.

np. sorry I misunderstood your earlier post, I thought it was directed at me, (it was fairly unclear). the forums can be flakey for posting, esp with new users.

there is no need to be sorry, i seem to have a way of saying things in such a way as to anger people when that wasn't the intention, but it only gets resolved when people are sensible enough to say something as you did and allow me to correct myself / apologize. but thank you again for the help the tracks play fine now, and it even looks like the clean install fixed

my understanding is that the new beta has done a fairly big overhaul to playlist handling, so you might want to try it out. I like the newest beta, its mostly stable, its just new stuff like the cloud that needs work. plus, you could give feedback into playlist handling, so they might fix or do things different based on what you say.

mostly stable is good, but i also use
![]() and it was nothing too bad for me atleast, because i have my PC on all the time but it just wouldn't save the playlist changes sometimes |

the beta shouldn't have any effect on how other software / plug-ins work as long as they interact with Winamp via the specific APIs to do things i.e. if they hard-code specific paths to check for things then they can break at any time. the changes to the playlists support mainly involves not re-saving playlists which have not been determined to have changed which prevents the risk of them getting mangled on forced / quick Windows shutdowns.
as for the original point of this thread, it's due to how Winamp works by looking at things by file extension instead of doing as WMP, VLC, etc do and they look at the file to then determine what needs to play it. maybe one day we'll add something like it to Winamp but that's a fundamental change in how the player and it's format support works. |
