Winamp crashes when loading music directory in media library
Every time I try to load my music folder (85gig- WMA, MPEG, m4a, mp3 and flac) into media library, it gets to 32 - 38% and crashes the entire winamp. On restart it has gone back to bento skin (I normally select Winamp modern) and has lost all playlists and enqued songs.
This was happening on the previous version of winamp 5.2 as well, but yesterday, I did a fresh install of windows 7 including a clean install of windows, no third party apps and this problem is still occuring. Pic may help http://*******.com/wincrash Any more details, I'll need to be walked through how to get. PC specs: OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600 System Manufacturer Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Hi Spookywanluke,
Some users with large collections are having this problem with initial media library scans. WA memory usage increases pass the limit for 32-bit apps and WA crashes. Currently, the only way to complete the initial scan of large collections (with this problem) is to do the scan in stages. Start the scan and use Windows task manager to monitor WA's memory usage. Stop the scan when memory passes 750 MB (or at some level before the crash) and shutdown WA. Restart WA and restart the scan. It will pick up from where it was stopped. It may take several stages to complete the initial scan. Subsequent scans, as you add files to your collection, will not require this process. There is a very long thread discussing this problem. If you have the time, I suggest you take a look at it. You may be able to provide some info that will help solve this problem. http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=335960 Windows 10 Home 64-bit v20H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |

I was reading that thread just before actually, now I can see how some of it reflects my situation.
I'll try to do the scan in stages and reply on the result. Thanks. |

I forgot to suggest enabling the 'Peak Working Set (Memory)' column in the Win 7 task manager. You may be surprised by the amount of memory some processes (including WA) use from time to time.

this thread reminded me of these old issues, maybe the people having the crashes could try 5.7 and see if they can generate a crash report?
