Go to Winamp > Preferences (Ctrl+P) > Plugins > Output:
DirectSound Output (out_ds.dll) > Configure

In the Device tab, change the device to your soundcard (instead of 'Primary Sound Driver') via the drop-down menu.

If the problem persists, then we will need to see a dxdiag log :
start > run > dxdiag
hit Enter
wait for it to load
then click 'save all information'
attach the dxdiag.txt log to your next reply here
(attachment feature available via the Post A Reply button).

We will also need to see a List of Plugins (to show all Winamp 1st & 3rd-party plugins, plus a bit of extra useful information about the Winamp version & installation).

You could stick my_plugin_list.txt and dxdiag.txt into one zip file and attach them together.

"Sound Tab 1: No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

http://support.dell.com/support/down...=us&l=en&s=gen

Select model -> desktops -> dimension -> 4550 -> confirm

Category: audio

returns two results:

Dell Dimension 4550 comes with either an onboard ADI 198x Integrated Audio chip, or a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital pci soundcard.

If you're not sure which of the two yours has got, and don't know how to determine whether it's an onboard chip or a pci soundcard, then you can try a program like Aida32 to help identify it. Or consult the pc/motherboard manual that (hopefully) came with your pc...

Download & install the drivers, reboot when prompted, and all should be ok from thereon.
