Earthbound!

*sigh* I have too much free time. But this has been suggested a bunch of times, so I thought I'd take a stab at it. Any suggestions are very welcome, as I don't really know where this skin is going. But... ideas for how to incorporate winamp elements (like the eq sliders... bleh) are most helpful. Not much is done yet... lots of Skinners Atlas showing.

i'd change the shuf/rep buttons, and the others that are blue too. They don't really match the rest of the skin, which is pretty cool! (like the stop sign)

This looks really cool

I'd angle the cbuttons (minus the stop sign of course) so that they appear to be drawn on the road.

I'm sure you can come up with great stuff for all of those unskinned components - you've structured the background very well in that regard.

I'd make the shuf/rep buttons characters. That's one of the things I remember about the game was the characters were cool looking. I dont remember specifics though. For eq sliders, I think he had a yo-yo, didnt he? I cant remember at all. Maybe I should just shut up. *runs away*

I'm just posting a beta skin of the first two windows so that you can appreciate some of the animations. It's still not that close to being done yet...

Brief Pseudo-torial: How to make a complex EQ background.
1. Of the texture of your choice, select and copy a rectangle exactly the size of an EQ bar.
2. Paste two of that rectangle next to each other, spaced exactly four pixels apart.
3. Painstakingly fill that four-pixel column between the bars, connecting them while continuing the pattern as smoothly as possible.
4. In your EQmain.bmp, paste the Eqbar-shaped rectangle into all of the bars, and the four-pixel gap-filler into all of the spaces between them.

Now I want everybody to do one like that as homework, and pass it in tomorrow.

Tsk tsk, nobody does their homework anymore. This is the second skin of mine (I think) with a lake for a playlist, but I say use what works.

The lake really looks great(in fact the whole thing is looking sweet), but I dont know about the left side tiling. Seems a little strange looking, though I understand you not wanting to just duplicate the right side..

Would anybody make me an AVS preset or two for this skin? Something like the background of that screenshot... with the trippy look. If any of you have played Earthbound, you'd notice the battles all have that sort of freaky background that seem apt to be made into AVS presets... I've never gotten the hang of the AVS program, though. As for the skin itself, I'll post another preview once I iron out what I've got so far.

Like in my Mario 2 skin, the video window is quite a bit darker than my other windows. This is for a couple of reasons, but the most relevent one is that when talking with somebody who has played through all of Earthbound about what might work for a video window, he suggested Lumine Hall, which projects Ness's thoughts onto the wall. Lumine Hall:

Attached is the Video window.

Thanks, Dogg, if you do one I'll appreciate it, but I won't mind if you don't.

I'm putting up another preview so you can look at the gen window and the playlist and the video window and the balance animation. Check it out if you want. I'm having trouble with the colors in the gan window, but I should be able to work it out, hopefully.

I hate the gen window. Would somebody color it for me? Most of the colors in the beta I posted work, there are just a couple of glitches I don't feel like finding.

Thank you for your comments and help Myrm. I'll use that link if nobody does it for me. XD And Game and Watch skin worked on Winamp 2.9, but the changes messed it up. Very sad. I'll update it someday...

I'll just assume that Nobby was talking to Dogg, so that the image-related issue should be taken care of. If not, I can fins some pics that might be a little better, but it doesn't really have to be exact, it just needs to capture the feel, kinda. Hopefully whatever Nobby sends covers that. As for the Media Library, I may scrap it and start over with something more like the player select screen at the beginning of the game, and the game menus and whatnot. I.E. Much darker and nicer.

On a completely unrelated not, but one that I hope you guys will appreciate, I've opened a CafePress shop! That's right, now you can buy stuff that I designed. Right now all that's there is my "CAUTION: TETRIS" stuff, but I may eventually open a "LuigiHann" store that sells stuff more in line with my skins and avatars.

Watch for Falling Blocks

If you're wondering why progress on the skin slowed down so suddenly, it is because I did all the fun parts already.

If you want pics, try Starmen.net in the Earthbound section, in the Screenshots section. There are at least a couple of fight pics. If you have the real Earthbound, perhaps play it until you fight somebody, and then just try to recreate the general feeling with swirly things in the AVS. You still don't have to do it, though, if it's too much trouble.

BUG TEST!

The skin should be 100% done now, so comments like "the ML is ugly" or "I hate having a frying pan as a cursor" are not really useful, sorry. But if you see anything like "this part is completely unskinned" or "when I click here there's a big blue chunk" I might want to know. Otherwise I should be set to go. Thanks a bunch everybody! Thank you again Myrm. Oh, btw, Doggy Dogg, you still doing a preset? I can wait until you finish before I submit this, if you still wanna do it.

-what's with the sliders in the ML? They look buggy. I don't know if it's intentional or not. If it IS intentional, then perhaps you could at least soften the jaggies with some manual anti-aliasing.

-The Balance animation (which is great, btw) is smooth when you do it on the MAIN, but a bit jumpy when you do it on the EQ-Windowshade

That's all I could find. Looks pretty bug-free to me - although I could of course be wrong

Unfortunately for nobody in particular, both of the bugs StillWater pointed out were intentional. The Balance thing is just supposed to look kinda... blobbier in the eq-mode, because I thought it was cool that way. And the ML sliders are just supposed to be "scribbley" and I think anti-aliasing would look like crap in the strechy bars, and that's code for "I'm too lazy and I don't think it's gonna kill anybody. Anyway, here's a final preview image, for people who don't wanna download the skin zip:

it's good to see that at least someone finishes skins

edit: lol @ the animations! they are great. The only thing I don't like ist the PL cursor, it's too big and has no arrow.. I'm a bit afraid to click somewhere and accidentally trigger 10 events, lol
