Super Mario Kart

Bet you've never seen a skin in a perspective like this! I have no idea what to do for the playlist... again...
I put blocks over all of the buttons that aren't done, so that's what the weird chunks are.

How about using the end screen where they post the results of the race as the playlist? I think they did that in super mario kart, but maybe I'm thinking of mario kart 64.. I used to play this game alot, so this is a wicked idea, keep it up.

You thought I was dead, didn't you?

There is a screen like that, but it's too much background and not enough frame to really do the playlist in it. I think I may end up using the Character select scree, if it works out.

that's awesome!

A MarioKart 64 skin would be even cooler though

Um. is it just me or is there going to be a problem with the vis area?

Looks really good though! I can't think of any ideas for the playlist right now but I'll let oyu know if I do.

Of course a MarioKart 64 skin would be cooler. :P I'll let you know when I can create true 3D graphics on my computer. :P And there's nothing really wrong with the vis, it's lined up so it cleanly replaces one of the hills.

Looks excellent. My only complaint would be the ghost on the track, which wouldn't be in the game. Perhaps a mushroom (one of the shrinkalizer mushrooms) or some other character-specific weapon could replace it.

Is there anything you can think of that "faces" in a "direction"? The ghost was pretty much the first thing I found that wasn't symmetrical. I took it from the background of the Boo Lake-type course, so it's not really the "item" ghost anyway...

This is a pretty tricky skin. Cut me some slack, you other anti-perspective dudes. Any other perspective wouldn't be worth being Mario Kart, if you know what I mean.

And finally, Stillwater, sorry if I sounded grumpy before, but let me say that if I finish it, next Remix contest you have permission to remix this into an MK64 skin.

Gah! Don't do that to me Xeno! lol. This skin should be decently smooth once every button is a button or something. I wouldn't count on the playlist etc flowing into the eq like mine have lately, but it should be nice.

I thought for a long time that it was impossible, and it'c oming along a lot better than I expected. I agree it isn't looking great, but let's see how it looks in the end. Unless the contest gets started, and I abandon this skin in favor of that. I think I've abandoned 4 skins so far:

-Zelda Amp 64
-Ecto Cool Amp
-Kirby mini Amp
-Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga

I don't know why I'm listing them here, I'm just thinking out loud now. But come on, root for the Mario Kart skin. It's an underdog.

I don't see what the fuss is about, to be honest. I think it looks fine, and that you've already proven the game to be skinnable. Sure, it's a little cluttered, but then so are 95% of all game skins.

Just a thought, what if the open button, rather than being Mario, was one of those "zip strips?" (It occurs to me now that having nicknames for everything causes a problem.) Arrow thingies. Like the ^s. Still not sure what you could replace that ghost with, but yeah.

And what's wrong with you people? This perspective is great! If you're complaining about how the track turns, that's how it looked in the game.

the track looks different in the game....i was just playing it today.

the perspective is too close to being "over the top"...in the game it was directly in back of the kart.

maybe if the main window would show the front view and the eq would show the back or even the map of the track like the game did?

.........?.

I'm quite attached to this layout. Individual items and characters are fairly changeable... but I think I'm gonna stick with Mario in the middle so when only the main window is open, it looks like you're playing as Mario.
I think once I get more of the items skinned, it should look nice. Feel free to make suggestions for anything not shown in the preview (unshown windows or anyting covered by colored rectangles)

I haven't really touched the skin since the pic preview, but here's a demo so you can look at the animations and usability so far...

The presets button will probably be a coin, but I'll have to find another 3-frame animation for the "on/off" eq button... And the EQ/PL buttons in the main window... hmmm... Stupid EQ and PL buttons, being way out there...
And I don't know about you guys, but it looks to me like the skin has some serious depth, although some of the sprites look a little tacked-on...
Blah blah blah...

It's funny to watch Toad spin out.

Crap! Crap crap crap! *sigh* Okay, Xeno's comment about the volume had me thinking "Well, Toad has to be going 'backwards' because that's the way the track turns!" Now, when I thought about it more, know who made the track go that way? Me! I did! Stupidly, I might add. Now, I think I will switch the direction of the turn and the volume animation, which is not quite as simple as I'd like it to be, but it should be doable. Why go through that much trouble? Not just for the volume, although that's a big part of it--- Flipping the turn will place the balance bar, the EQ button and the PL button right on the track. Unless anyone sees any flaws with this idea, I'll do it. But not right now, because it's late, and just thinking about it makes me tired.

That's much better. Though can you make the curved track (that is, the section of track that Toad is about to drive into) wider? I think it would look better (and the BAL/PL/EQ stuff would be less cramped) if it wasn't so thin

Hey Guys. This skin will be on hold for a little while because I'm on the new computer, and only have the skin as of the latest preview here. The old computer will be set up in another room sometime, and at that time I'll get the skin again, and resume work. I want the contest to start now...

hahaha, this is great! I think the perspective is perfect. I tried to do a Mario Kart skin once, from the side view. I ended up abandoning it because it . . . what's it called? . . . oh yeah, sucked. Nice volume slider, and the vis area isn't as obtrusive as I thought it would be. Kick ass

Nice anims. Did a little bug hunt, but none could be found. The EQ/PL buttons were suspicious for a moment, but as I said, there aren't any for now.

Alright alright, here. It started out ok, but I could tell it was going nowhere at breakneck speed Boring skin. I thought about going with the perspective you used, but it looks pretty pixellated when you're actually playing the game, so I didn't think it would look very good. I have been proven wrong though, your skin looks solid. Great stuff
