I had an idea like that for a stream. Having users submit videos to show on it. I got lazy tho and did nothing.

Plus I couldn't afford a server. meh

NSV downloads
An in-depth step by step guide for newbies, coming soon.

I wonder how well this will work?. I'd rather have viewers send me an avi or something. That way you could change the stream if you felt like it too.

Encoding NSV's is a little tricky until you get the hang of it. I think I'd just say "Send me whatever" and hash it out here.

Still, a really good effort on a video.

I made that video in about 5 minutes for the goons that are submitting material to GBStv.

If you're reading this topic please keep in mind you may not submit material unless you are a member of the Something Awful forums.

GBStv will be the most advanced NSV streaming site that I know of. We have 3 teams of people working on separate parts of the project. It will truly blow everyone away when it's done.

That's my webspace you're linking to, though, and now all the retards in the public NSV forum are going to be leeching 3MB's off me left and right. Thanks for this

As for the "difficulty" of NSV encoding:

I'm not going to have several thousand users upload uncompressed media to my server when I know for a fact what it needs to be encoded to, and what will be streamed. If they are producing original material and we need a larger format, our producers can get in touch with them and get the larger copy if needed.

The whole point of the tutorial and special distribution of NSVtools eliminates it. We have had no problems with people who actually download our specific distribution and install a codec pack.

Unrelated note about macs+VP6:

SA has almost 60,000 users and a lot of them use Macs, so I've had a lot of complaints from people who want to encode/view on Macs. We're using VP62, and it's truly a disappointment that it's not available

Well, IMO you should have made it a torrent on alluvion.org

if you didnt want people to link to it without permission, you could have put that somewhere, a page titled 'untitled' and just the video,w ell, who knows what that could be

if it said 'sa forums only' then i would have totally respected that sir

jeez

stop necrotizing my flesh

Necrotic is like, dead shit right? Anyhoo..

I applaud what SA is doing. It's another original, high quality show which is another notch in NSV's belt toward becoming mainstream.

Just do like I advised ya in chat, you got years worth of scripts in the form of yablonski and jeffk stories, making live action shows of those guys would rock. It's cool havin folks submit video's and what not, but producing your own shit puts you in a whole different category

Yeah, it looks like you have a pretty good start at a station. That's cool.

I was watching for a while and it looks like you got the technical part pretty nailed.

I'll be watching to steal ideas off of you.

Good Luck

I didn't mean to look like so much of an ass at first with him, but then he put a lot of bad taste in my mouth.

So Inedible Bulk, are you still bringing your parents to Gooncon?

He does need to figure out it's really rude to hotlink peoples sites. He did it to me, and I think my disdain was similar.

a 'no linking policy' is rare, it would put places like google out of buisness

however i will start checking robots.txt files and obeying them. if your robots.txt doesnt want your site indexed/linked to, i won't either.

Wow. I don't even know if I should bother explaining this one, but I will anyways.

Google doesn't go making posts on specific, special-group forums masquerading as a person and saying "hay guys here is a good tutorial for NSV, everyone should watch especially retarded people"

You are wrong. If you link my site and I find out, your clients are going to get a fat wad of goatse on their screen.

In other words, you're going to get banned from whatever forums you link my shit on. There is a REASON hotlinking is fucked up, and it has NOTHING to do with search engines and robots.txt.

It might even be legal to be rude, but that doesn't make it right.

You did this twice, and pissed people off... twice ... That ought to tell you something......

Another reason, you should ask permission is that webmasters will think you were cool.... which they don't now.
