(Still) Having troubles adding music files

First off, yes, I have installed the in_mp3 patch. It didn't fix my problem. Second, this is a clean install with no extra plugins whatsoever. I just installed the OS, in fact, on Friday.

What's happening is, I added my music directory (12k+ songs) to the list of watch directories for my Media Library... let it sit and spin for a while, then eventually I get an error looking like this:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: winamp.exe
Application Version: 5.5.0.1640
Application Timestamp: 470c632a
Fault Module Name: in_mp3.dll
Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
Fault Module Timestamp: 4716244a
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 000128e5
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033
Additional Information 1: f1fe
Additional Information 2: ba1cf86be3e526515444f1c13780e438
Additional Information 3: 8fcb
Additional Information 4: 7fc12fe7ad745af7601fda0a71bfe3c4

My system specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ / Abit KN9
2gb PC6400 DDR2
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (I checked, there is no gen_nomad.dll in my plugins)
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
DirectX 10

The Winamp installation was 5.5 Full.

Any more ideas?

Please go to:

Winamp > Prefs (Ctrl+P) > Media Library > Local Media > Watch Folders tab

Move the Prefs dialog away from the center of the screen (so the crash dialog doesn't cover it when it appears).

Click the "Rescan Now" button.

Watch the progress meter, and when it crashes, see what file it froze/crashed on.

Upload that mp3 file to one of stashbox.org or mediafire.com and post the download link here (don't worry if it says 'url submitted by user', mods/admin can still see the url).

Alas, we'll need this sample file if we're going to be able to reproduce the problem and fix it for the next release.

I think an "oops" might be in order here. I actually just figured out the tactic you named in order to find and fix the offending files, using MusicBrainz Picard (http://musicbrainz.org/doc/PicardDownload)

Obviously not an optimal solution, but at least a decent workaround... even if it does take quite a long time.

I believe I may have some copies of the offenders on another machine, however. I'll give a look and upload one if I can find it!

Thanks.

Reproduced the crash. Should be fixed for 5.51

I'll take a guess at it being related to the embedded .png art, but we shall see...

Huh, that's an odd one. Must have been something that the aforementioned Picard did. Either way, good to hear it's not just me!

Thank you!
