The most annoying and strange error

It all began when I simply dragged and dropped Winamp 3.91 from the right lower corner to the left lower corner of the desktop. After that, I opened the WT GemMaster game. Since before the minibrowser window with the game was located on the left of the player, I tried a little to relocate it to the right of it, but then the first error message appeared and Winamp didn't work. I did reboot to no avail. Unistalled and reinstalled everything, leaving things or from scratch, and nothing. If I install only Winamp, it runs OK, but if I install and run WT's GemMaster it gets the error and Winamp won't run, and there is ever the "illegal operation" message.

The system is W98SE, and the details of the error are (Brazilian Portuguese):

WINAMP causou uma falha de página inválida no
módulo MSVCRT.DLL em 0167:78003b44.

What is wrong?

I partially solved the problem by doing the following:

1. I copied the C:\Program files\Winamp folder and the files Winamp.lgc, Winampa.lgc (both in Windows\Applog folder), and Winamp.inf (Windows folder) from my Windows XP Home system.

2. I uninstalled Winamp and deleted all correspondent files (lgc, inf) from the Win98SE system.

3. I copied and pasted the corresponent XP folders and files to their places in the Win98SE system.

4. The crash and the error message stopped and both Winamp and the game now run OK, but... another problem appeared!

Every time I close and reopen Winamp (or restart the PC), the skin goes back to the one last used on the WinXP system and, what's worse, a playlist is there, but if I hit X to play I see a fast advance as if the app is scanning the list -and plays nothing. So I have to clear the playlist, open it again for things to run OK.

I think it happens due to some relation with the XP configs. Any idea on where I have to take a look to fix things?

Uff! Problem definitely solved! It was simply a matter of unticking the "read-only" attribute of some files...
