Showing off the server room

Discuss.

ACRadio is a talkshow radio station which I host.

It's a strange name. Don't ask.

It's a gaming thing.

that it's a mess?

"Well, got to love you and leave you, need to go get into the shower and rub my hard naked body all over with soapy bubbles, I'll be back later to carry on playing....

It'll take you some time to get over the image of me naked in the shower......mind you don't masturbate to hard thinking about it...."

you need to replace all that mess with a nice rack+kvm switch. I was recently pointed at some rather nice desks with built in racks.

one day, it shall be mine

Sod that, buy proper servers with a console port and buy a console server/switchy thingy. Uber leetness and no annoying kvm switch to flip.

So, why do you have two windows boxes in your server room?

Nah. Natasha. Russian name. Very attractive name, at that. It just has a seductive appeal when I say it aloud.

Yeah, this room is going to go under some major transitions. I was actually thinking about going out for a rackmount server. I might buy a nice rack from eBay.com. Who knows.

Damn, a nice cabinet would look nice.

And no, Natasha isn't my girlfriend.

I have two windows boxein in my room because I use those two the most. The Mandrake machines are just servers. Unless I'm setting up an IRCd or editing some conf files for the services, I leave them alone. They are quick to anger.

Nothing is wrong with the machine to the right with the side off. It's just old. And unplugged. It's a desk, now. That's the ultimate ritual for a dead machine: A desk.

Well, considering California is SO DAMN COLD. No, it doesn't. I wish it did, though.

Computer repair shops don't usually have two servers running around on the WAN. But, no, when time calls for it, this place is quickly turned into a repair shop.

I'm in Fresno.

It's cold. VERY damn cold. I have to wear my leather jacket all day.

[looks kind of like my room without my stereo and a bed and i only have 2 monitors and a tv.]
Yeah, but I eat, drink, get drunk, and sleep in this room. .. Well, sometimes sleep. That's the difference. Haha.

Well, I never thought about that, but I'm sure that'd be more than a death to a computer.

I'm sure it'd be death to a few people following your vehicle.

I have an old P2 400 that seems to run a lot better with the case cover off. I'm not sure if it's a heating issue of if the case cover somehow got magnetized or something but it really hates having that thing on.

Don't be afriad to use your linux boxes. It's a lot easier to break windows.

edit//especially if you don't log in as root. As a normal user, there's a limit as to how much you can fuck things up.

But how many people do you know that actually choose to use a user account on a windows box? I'm talking home systems, not in a school or corporate network where you may be forced to.

There's too much software around that requires admin priveleges, and using 'run as > administrator account' is just too much hassle for most windows users.

What happens to a lot of people is that they give so many permissions to normal users for the sake of convienence and it starts to defeat the purpose. Actually, I have no idea if that's what people do. I just su when I need to do something as root and otherwise stay as my limited privelage self. The only permission i changed was the skins directory for xmms.

My mate's room has like 10-20 computers, some rackmounted, about 10 monitors, and some blinkenlights. I find it hard to get excited about people's computer rooms now...

That's not the point. You should compare like with like, regardless of how people actually use their computers.
