Diskwriter?

I installed the update mentioned on nvmax.com which includes a diskwriter but haven't figured out how to get it working. The only audio options seem to be DirectSound and waveOut and the configuration for the diskwriter always lists "idle".

Anyone figure out how to get this working?

Ahh, very nice, I always forgot that DiskWriter was selected as the output plugin and started "playing" my MP3s to wav. I like this.

Have you checked the FAQ yet?

This one too....

Think you have a bug? Check this out too.

Thanks. That certainly is a better way of doing things.

Unfortunately it seems only .mp3 files can be converted (and only to .wav or vorbis).

Any .wav file I try to convert to any format ends up being 0 bytes.

Of 3 .wma files I tried to convert to mp3: One (V8) ended up playing without any sound and the other 2 (V7 and V8) had the sound all scrambled so it wasn't even recognizable. Both weren't recognized by Windows as a .mp3 file and could only be "played" in winamp. I don't have Lame Mp3 installed but I thought it was compatible with windows mp3 decoder.

I also tried to convert both .wma files to pcm wav and that wasn't even recognizable by windows as a .wav file. Also Winamp3 wouldn't play it.

So I guess it won't convert .wma files

i believe your problems with wma are due to the wma licience. I don't think nullsoft are allowed to make a converter from wma. Think it's due to som security issues.. wma is supposed to be a copy proof format, if the file creator wants it to be.

Yeah if you do intend on using Diskwriter a lot I'd keep checking http://www.blorp.com/~peter/zips/ for the latest wa3update as diskwriter is getting updates fairly frequently and there have been some big issues, but now it seems mostly stable to use more regularly. Also just as a fun note in case that someone didn't realize this(I didn't ), in order to get to the individual format preferences click on Diskwriter in the preferences and after selecting press the right arrow on the keyboard. Fun stuff. Anyway I'd have to say that it works fairly well for ripping straight from my personal CDs to my personal collection of Ogg files. Have fun.
