Shoutcast2 was never finished. Don't waste your time with it.

sc2 seems to have been canned when Tag was.
He hinted at this outcome on his way out.

I have been lucky enough to have seen some intresting dev taking place in other areas though,so its not all bad news.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.

It would be kewl if they would make a shoutcast p2p (serverless) for Winamp/Shoutcast. Then the only thing you need worry about would be ATH through your license provider aka swcast.net, Loudcity. The listeners also become relays like Streamerp2p. It works very well and with AAC+ it could be interesting as cell phones could also run the java based Shoutcast p2p app. The downside is that shoutcast hosting companies won't make any money unless they centered on AutoDJ. Its just a thought.

Tracking ATH with P2P systems is near-impossible. There are already P2P solutions out there, and they have their share of issues, especially with office firewalls.

Shame about Shoutcast2 though. I was hoping for Authentication in the next version of Shoutcast.

All P2P at the college where I work is blocked, anything new that comes up they find and block, so that is not a source I would use. I also detest P2P because of the vast majority of slimeball losers that populate the files with a virus. You have little control over what happens and where the user really gets the data, so I would never subject our listeners to that kind of risk.

Your mileage may vary!

Dont give up on shoutcast 2.0 recent communications i have had
with aol give conflicting statments about sc2.
The public one here on the forums states sc2 was never finished. This is true because Tag and the gang were the ones supposed to finish it.

As far as i can tell if sc2 were to go ahead it would be aols indian team that completed it.

These guys are highly motivated and talented people,
so dont give up quite yet.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.

Hopefully SC2 will Block Bots and such so that real listeners can listen. Maybe listeners would see an image and has to type in the numbers/letters to be verified. This way no more bots taking up valuable space from listeners. As far as Streamerp2p went it worked great although there were few listeners and since you can't Upload/Download I fail to see how you can get a virus from an Mp3. If I was a programmer I'd make it only allow Mp3, AAC or have a special audio file like .sc2 with an encrypted header that has a checksum and if the checksum don't match no broadcast. However it is only a suggestion and I'm happy with Shoutcast other wise I'd not broadcast on it lol. I don't like some of the other streaming apps that is for sure and Shoutcast is easy to set up and run compared to other services. It has been around for a very long time and has stood the test of time.
