After I installed Wild Tangent, Winamp will no longer run, giving me a "DirectX 5+ not found" error. I run NT4.0 with Service Pack 6.0a installed. I tried re-installing the Service Pack hoping that some missing component of DirectX would also be re-installed. No Luck. I downloaded and installed the latest Winamp release, and I still receive the error. Help!

Hi
I took a look at this, and the only place that the message "DirectX 5+ not found" occurs in a winamp/webdriver install is in the winamp direct sound output plugin (out_ds.dll).
To confirm that it was the winamp plugin complaining, I took a clean system with NT4 (Service Pack 4) and nothing else, downloaded winamp 2.62, and selected the winamp nullsoft direct sound output plugin. Then whenever I tried to play anything, I got the message you did.
Try the winamp Nullsoft waveOut output plugin instead.
Regards
Jeremy Kenyon

Oh, some info about NT4, FYI:
- It only supports up to DirectX 3, but the nullsoft plugin requires DirectX 5.
- The webdriver works in DirectX 3 (including audio support using Direct Sound), but it will be using the DirectX software rasterizer, which is very slow. On a fast PC, in smallish window, it would be fine, but going full screen would make it crawl. We are working on our own software rasterizer, which should be available in a couple of months or so which will help lots.
- In NT5 (Windows 2000), both the nullsoft output plugin and the webdriver should be happy because it comes with DirectX 7, and includes DirectX hardware acceleration support (if you have a 3D card anyway).

Thanks very much for the info. This is the 3rd or 4th roadblock that I've run into lately with NT4. Looks like the ultimate solution is to upgrade to 2000. (another upgrade, sheesh!) Again, thanks for your help.
