I just want to let ALL USERS with the iPhone/ipod touch

THAT WANT TO UPGRADE TO THE NEW 3.0 SOFTWARE

that ML_iPOD WORKS PERFECTLY!!!!!


I was ecstatic when i had discovered this, i did Photo sync, Music, ratings, playlist, etc... changes, and it ALL SYNCED!

So those of you who were hesitant, please if you want (and i recommend) to upgrade to the 3.0 software, the search feature alone makes this worthwhile, let alone bluetooth, tethering and push notifications.

now lets all wait for the 3.0 ultimatesn0w jailbreak to come out

Update: The songs update and ipod syncs with NO ERRORS, But..... when in the ipod touch the new songs/play lists do NOT show up, Im sure this is because of a DB language mismatch. if i can give any help to the ml_ipod developers please let me know!!

Hey!

Since I got my iPhone (which I had to update to 3.0 to use it with my provider), I've been following the discussions on whether it's possible to transfer music to it with ml_ipod - and to actually see it afterwards...
But after reading this thread I lost hope, that this would happen ever soon (absolutely understandable though).

Good news is, IT DOES already! Not as comfortable as it did before, but at least you can use ur favorite music player (winamp) to sync and organize your music and not the bad-i-word-application (more of an operating system on its own regarding size and speed) that comes with your device.

All you have to do, is to follow these steps every time you do a sync or delete/add music:

Since the URLs submitted aren't visible, I'll simply post the steps:

1. Before starting, REMOVE all the songs from your iPod using iTunes. 2. Start foobar2000 and sync songs to your iPod with foo_dop as usual. 3. When you're done, start up iPhoneBrowser (or SSH/Mobile Terminal) and in the left hand pane, navigate to /User/Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes 4. In the right hand pane, delete the iTunesCDB file (NOT the iTunesDB file). 5. Start up iTunes and allow it to find your iPod. If you look in the music section, you should see all the files synced using foo_dop. 6. Close iTunes. 7. You must carry out steps 3-6 whenever adding/removing songs with foo_dop

(While reading just replace "foo_dop" by "ml_ipod" and "foobar2000" by "winamp"...

This basically is a repost, since DrO posted a link to the same forum in the thread mentioned above - in a different context though. So I thought it might be useful to make clear that there actually is a possibility to make it work!

Ok, so basically the iTunesCDB file has to be deleted, and then you have to start iTunes once after each transfer process? The deleting thing could easily be integrated into ml_ipod. Then, all you would have to do is run iTunes. Which is not what everybody wants, right?

I just hate syncing with iTunes.. if i have to start iTunes for now just to build the DB then so be it. But whats in this CDB file? What gets lost upon re-creation?

thanks. All that ml_ipod needs is some "AfterSync"-procedure, deleting iTunesCDB and firing up iTunes (and closing this pile of code-crap immediately afterwards)

Ok, for all those adventurous guys who want to fiddle with this: There is a new ml_ipod at http://mlipod.sourceforge.net/patches. It removes the iTunesCDB during sync.

So the process should be (untested) like this:

• Before starting, REMOVE all the songs from your iPod using iTunes (this must be done only once)
• Close iTunes
• Start Winamp and sync songs to your iPod with ml_ipod as usual.
• When you're done, hit the eject button in Winamp
• Start up iTunes and allow it to find your iPhone. If you look in the music section, you should see all the files synced using ml_ipod
• Close iTunes
• Enjoy your songs on the iPhone

could somone also test if starting itunes ON THE IPHONE and see if that works?
if it dose then we have no need for itunes

Nope launching iTunes on the iPhone doesn't appear to be recreating the iTunesCDB file like launching iTunes on the desktop does.

I guess someone will have to work out the file format then

Looks like it's compressed as it's a hell of a lot smaller than the iTunesDB file for me.

Looking at the header though it's not any compression I recognise.

well just s everyone know there IS a switless itunes
so you just git itunes and nothing elce..

but yu do need QTalternative and QT alternative itunes addon
and then yu have a much easyer time with itunes

It's more than just compression. The guys at the foobar2000 forum are working on this, see there , it's much more complicated than just compressing the regular iTunesDB. Too bad...

Thanks for the new method. It's working nice. I have only one prob, the lyric (in my ID3 v2 Tag) doesn't seems to be synced.

Does anyone have the same experience?

Abu, thanks for your plugin, you've done a great work.

Just an idea : if you can't access iTunes DB from 'outside', how about an iPhone app for syncing everything (songs, playcounts, lastupdated, etc.) with ml_ipod/winamp? has anyone tried something like that?

Followed the steps - and it worked, my music library successfully moved to the ipod. But how to further sync? Should I do the same all the time I want to sync a new stuff: re-writing the whole library? It's painful

Honestly, I think there is no other way at the moment.

It seems that foobar2000/foo_dop has managed to solve this thing, but it's not open source, so we can't benefit from that.

I want to sync it with Winamp coz this is the player i use, and i used to sync my iPod with ml_ipod

NOW, it doesnt seems to work for the iphone:
i installed the last version of ml_ipod, and the patch : 06

i follow the instruction, but it doesnt work?
means, that it all works fine with winamp, but then there are no music in the iPhone when i want to play it from it

I've your same problem, but reading in the mlipod.sourceforge website:

Firmware 3.x / iPhone 3GS
ml_iPod will not work with these devices, sorry!

unless someone is working on a patch (which i think abu hasn't got the time/means to do) for the plug-in then there's no solution to the issue - got to love Apple and their constant changing of their control of things as it'd so much simpler if there was a common api/method to interface with their devices but that's wishful thinking.

Insted of paying them I would chouse paying for this nice plugin suporting 3.x

Iphone will be on earth for a long time I think and many people will need such a pluging.

tutunmayan: there's a lack of interest / resources available from coders to work on making this plugin (or another) work correctly for Winamp to manage the newer Apple devices so despite you're comments it is essentially falling on death ears especially as the few other people who've offered to help abu with the project seem to have disappeared without implementing anything which is a shame (seeing as Winamp has sort of been pushed as an iTunes alternative in certain ways).

alas i think you're stuck with iTunes or an alternative app which has the required support - the fun you get when going the Apple way sadly.

Hey guys.

Have had this full sync but no songs appear on the ipod issue. I have a brand new ipod classic 160gig i bought today. My video 5.5g got stolen on a 62 hour greyhound trip across the US a few days ago, major bummer. Best ipod around and im not the biggest fans of the new ones, but i simply needed an ipod so had to get it.

Anyway, did a full sync with ml_ipod, then had nothing on the ipod. Pissed off, i came back downstairs to the lobby of the hostel im staying at so i have wifi, and downloaded itunes. Then after waiting ages, i realised i needed the 64 bit version. Its nearly done now and am gonna try the manually manage music thing in that and get itunes to be nice hopefully.

Sorry that i seem angry. But i am. Have had a bad day, just want my music on my ipod (im sure you guys know how necessary it can be at times) and have found here that its obviously not gonna happen as easy as i'd like. Anyway, i wish i could support you abu to continue work on the plugin but i know its still not gonna happen.

Thanks for the info guys, im just really praying that i dont have to wait an hour and a half to resync with itunes.

well seeing as abu no longer works on the plug-in (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=318179) there's even less help on getting the matter fixed (however frustrating it is for people not wanting to use iTunes but then Apple is going to do what it can to ensure people have to use iTunes). might even be time to close this forum if the plug-in is basically dead now...
