About Updating my Vintage Winamp

I have a vintage winamp version which I like and love very much

but lately I have been getting this message when starting it that I have to update it cause there has been this security breach in one of the skins or whatever
and it tells me to update

when I go to download I only find the new
Flash in the pan version

With the Music Libary and with the extra memory intake

what I always have appreciated about winamp is the simplicity....

And I don't want to update to the flash in the pan version

I like my winamp the way it is with huge playlists and the marvelous jump to file option

So what am I to do?

Also a question I have a user account here with the username sutnop but I don't get to post anything is that account banned or diabled for some reason????

Thanks in Advance for all the help
allmighty Winamp Wizards

/sutnop

2.91 - doesn't matter. It's still an unsupported version with security flaws and bugs.

Read my reply to forums member IrishWolf216 in another thread.

It will tell you all about why you should upgrade and it will give you pointers on how you can get a nice trim and slimmed down version of 5.05 Full that will act and look the same as older 2.xx versions.

I'm a Mod here. I already knew your email address. The reason I didn't post it above is because the Sutnop account elected NOT to show the email address to the public. I was respecting your right to privacy when I did not post your email address publicly.

But now that you did.... ah well

Okay... give me a little time to check the forum access permissions for the Sutnop account. I'll post back here later.

THanks for taking the time Nuzio
in your reply to irish.... you tell him to disregard downloading
########
Modern Skin Support (you'll only be able to use classic skins)

User Interface Extensions (you won't have DrO's great Jump to File Extra, Global Hotkey support, or the Nullsoft tray control)

Video File Support (you won't be able to play any type of video at all in Winamp, including internet TV (NSV) in the Media Library)
######

but this is not what my 2.91 looks like

I both have videos and jump to file....

Okay. It appears that you never activated the Sutnop account by responding to a necessary email notification at the time you signed up with that account, to visit an address first in order to activate the account to allow posting in the forums. No worries though, I've just emailed you a new email activation code.

Re: the upgrade...

That's right. I know 2.91 had video support and early JTFE. You don't HAVE to follow what I suggested for that dude with the older 2.75. It was only meant as a guide. In your case just uncheck Modern Skin support and you should be good to go.

Also, refer to Like the Wind for tips and tweaks to have 5.05 running as smoothly as 2.91 ever did. Also, refer to my other post re: slow load time with Winamp 5.05.

Yep Darren
That's why I told him he has an early JTFE in 2.91. I shouldn't have said early. I shoulda said archaic instead. LOL! None of the great features that exist in your current release.

Especially the JTFE queue randomization

thanx for all the help guys
I guess thats all there is left
upgrade to the flash in the pan....

As for the user account "forgeta bout it" (is there an Italian Smilie)

the reason it doesn't work is probably correct
and I won't be able to activate it
since the inbox @juventuz.com
is out of order on courtesy of the providers...

But Thanks

Ahhh... upgrade. You'll love 5.05 Full. It's running smooth as a baby's arse for me right now on an ancient Win95 PII piece of garbage box I'm temp stuck with.

Don't worry about that. Didn't you read the other post I linked to above? Probably not. Just reference it now.

As long as you don't load the ML database at startup (reference my screenshot in that thread), not only will Winamp 5.05 load as fast as it has always had done in previous versions, but it will also use minimal memory. I know. I do it all the time. And then I just leave the ML window closed when not in use, and sometimes Winamp minimized in the systray.

Okay... enough of this. You know what to do now.

I don't understand. What do you mean "it used to"? I thought that you only had 2.75 and were looking to only upgrade to 2.90 when you started this other thread just 13 minutes before your above post. Are you telling me that you downloaded and installed 5.05 within that 13 minutes and it played video files and then suddenly didn't in that short time? I think not.

In any event, even though that other thread was locked/closed (because we don't discuss/support older versions here), I still posted a reply there for you to reference. If you haven't seen my reply then go back and look now.

Did you UNcheck Video File Support in the 5.05 installer? I quote that part of my reply...
Quote:
  • Video File Support (you won't be able to play any type of video at all in Winamp, including internet TV (NSV) in the Media Library)
So, if you UNchecked Video File Support and you want it, you will have to reinstall 5.05 Full again, and make certain that Video File Support is CHECKED in the installer.
____________________________________

NOW... if the above is not the case and your Winamp 5.05 Full won't show video when you play .avi files, but it will play other video file formats, then you you have video support and there is no need to reinstall. In that case you only probably need the correct DirectShow video decoder. Run GSpot to find out which codec is needed and then download/install it.

This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.

no what i meant was i had winamp 2.90 and 5.02 and they both would run files in the .avi, .mpg, and .mpeg format but then i formatted my hard drive and i had 2.75 and then downloaded 5.05 and 2.75 won't play the files at all. and 5.05 won't play the video portion.

Okay. I understand now. Your AVI files won't play in 2.75 because there was never video support in that version. And most probably the reason that AVI files will not play in 5.05 is because of a missing codec. So just go with the last part of what I said above...
