Agreed. Good to see you. I still have to learn more before I decide to spend one of your invites. (watching the "long video" that Google provides)

I've been trying to get Wave and Voice invites forever. You'd think being a Gmail user since May 2004 would be enough to earn you one...

This is a sig of some nature.

wave? It's going to pretty cool. It isn't a google application like gmail or something, it is more like a protocol ala FTP. Anyone will be able to set up their own private wave server and load whatever you want. Then the private wave servers can still easily talk to the public google server or the private facebook server or whoever's wave server you want, as easy as clicking a link. Google wave then takes care of all the authentication, file cloning, and a bunch of other stuff so that you can talk to someone on a completely different network to your wave and they will act just as if they where local. It's going to be weird and take some getting used too, but I think you'll like it or hopefully hardly even notice it.

When its not really open source yet.

They plan on opening the source further along in the project. But its all closed and proprietary so far.

Just like Live Meeting then......

I've said it before - i just don't get why people rave on so much about Google stuff - half of it ois just a pain in the hole.

Take Google Analytics for instance. I put it in my blog system for awhile - far as I'm concerned all it did was slow down the damn system! Consistently If I land on websites using it and am waiting for it to load........waiting_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ waiting - I then check the status bar for the cause - what script is holding everything up? 9/10 its Google bloody Analytics...even here has the problem and seriously there stats are no better [in fact they are worse in some cases] than say awestats or statcounter or even *********.

Maybe its just me but I don't like Google - never have even when they were first starting years ago which I said then - there was something I just didn't trust nor still do about them... I said then what they would become and it was no your wrong blah blah blah - don't know what your talking about.....

looks around - yep Google has become the behemoth I said it would......

Analytics always seemed fast enough to me. Yeah, and Google is the "The Great Satan". I guess I'm jaded since they've sent me tens of thousands of bucks for doing what I like to do over the years.

I guess promoting open source software, advertising in an innocuous manner, competing with Microsoft... it just all slates Google for damnation.

Really.... what is not to like?

A web without Google would be a dismal place... or possibly non-existent............

While you bitch about Google, Google never asked a dime from you. I doubt you could spend ten minutes on the web without taking advantage of it. It monetizes your favorite webs. It gives you cool toys to play with. Even if you didn't like it, it never cost you a red cent.

Long live Google. OMG! It left a cookie when your browsed....... but even then you could have opted out

http://www.google.com/privacy_ads.html

OGRES!!

Man! If I could find one company over the years that didn't ever screw me over, didn't screw up my computer, and that always was cool.... It's Google.

Ahem AOL?

It is a behemoth. By creating a business that conducts itself in keeping with pretty good standards. I trust Google. That's a damn rarity on the web.

Yes. It's so big, it could become evil. If I see that, I'll let ya know.... I am computer adept enough to notice.

In the mean time, when you visit webs that use adsense, you can relax and enjoy. It's the only web advertising company that isn't a scam.

How many times has Google malwared or inadvertently caused harm to anything I ever owned? Zero.. Zip... Nada... Hmmmm.... Winamp? AOL bundles on computers I sold and owned... oh boy!

Nope. When you see Google, you're gonna be ok.

How cool is Google? It's not so cool that I will do the pee pee dance. Short of that, it's a company that sends me money to play with toys. How do you beat that?

Probably when I meet St. Peter at the pearly gates, he'll say "Did you Google?" and he'll send me to hell for having the Google toolbar installed and 3 gmail accounts. I'll have to remind him that he was watching Rihanna clips from hell on Youtube when I showed up.

It's not that I have anything against Google, I wouldn't like it if any other company would get that much control over the internet either. I'd prefer it to be spread over multiple companies, just a normal precaution.

I share your concern about monolithic companies controlling the internet and our computers, but since you will probably read this on a chipset made by Intel and on a Microsoft OS..... well, I could digress from here.....

It could be argued that Google, in a pretty meager way, bends the status quo a little.

While we're dragging feet to escape our eventual pay per view cyberspace, I think Google is more of a plus than a minus.
