Bill Satan is actually married, BTW.

You can use Trillian for all your IM needs (except AOL, at the mo ).

yep, trillian is good

NOTE: - it's a right pain in the @ss to set up, if you have icq, msn, aol, yahoo ids to merge

otherwise best go to msn lololol

Linux. My favorite OSs EVER. I love almost any Linux OS. Microsoft is trying to regulate too much stuff in the new OSs.

You mean to say there are more than ONE OS called Linux?
I know there are several different dists, but it's still the same OS.

Well, not really. Its like the whole windows 95, 98, ME, etc. There have been a couple different version released and I have liked them all. I'm planning on getting the new Red Hat Linux in a few weeks for this computer.

I go for Slackware.
Linux dist. for slackers.
But still I wouldn't call different dists for different versions, I can agree that the kernel is updated with new versions and such, and also the different dists come in new versions and all, but there is still a difference there.. blah.

I will add to my comment about microshit being a load of crap. They sold an XP Plus disk for £40 and most of it is shit! The game hyperbowl has 2 levels and you have to spend more money for extra levels. The same for other things throughout the pack. You would think that a £40 CD of microshit stuff would have a few more than 3 visualisations wouldnt you? and 4 themes?
Has everyones standards suddenly dropped or are people just so dumb that they dont know when they are being ripped off!
I agree, i have Windows cos its the most popular os with most programs being designed for their os'. As soon as microsoft go out of business and a decent os is top and popular without bloatware, im going straight to the shops!

only common people with average needs should even consider windows, big businesses with large programs to run and big files to view should look elseware for an os. i.e. windows cannot handle CAD that well

That's not a Linux website, it's an anti-Microsoft website. Everyone there hates Microsoft, but they aren't necessarily all Linux users. Some of them use Solaris, QNX, BeOS, Mac OS(X), *BSD, OS/2, and so forth. Windows and Linux aren't the only two OSes in existance, contrary to what some people believe.

Don't quote Linkin Park at me again!

What is wrong with microsft products? They do what you want and they do it in a way that is nice and easy to do. Ok so they only have 3 stable OS's (dos, NT4 and XP) but everything else is pretty good. It's all well supported driver wise and anyone can pick it up. Do you think we would have got where we are today without anyone with 2 brain cealls to rub together being able to work Windows out.

I use OMS office and have done for a long time. I've used StarOffice WordPerfect and a few others, nothing comes close to the usability and 'niceness' of Office. So I don't like everything about it, it's table use being one point. But I love the rest of it.

If you want to complain about MS go buy a Copy of SUSE linux and a copy of their amazing program that lets you run other OS's in windows (windows as in it's true meaning). Don't be a hypocrite.

You know why microsoft sux? Because they ask way too much money for their stuff. The products itself don't suck (except for windows 95, 98 and ME), but the licenses are too expensive for anyone to pay.

I've used linux for a little while, but I got rid of it because there is too little software for it (wine didn't work for me). The greatest thing about Linux is that it's all free. (Free stuff rules... why not make microsoft products for free from now on?)

Anyway, I'm glad to say I use a pirated version of Windows XP (yeah, sue me...) and it works perfect. I'm glad it's pirated, because that way I'm not sponsoring microsoft by paying for it. They're a bunch of greedy bastards that don't understand that there are people out there (like me) that can't afford to spend $500 on some stupid OS, just because they need it to run software.

And if microsoft wants to ban AOL IM, they have my support! I'm using Trillian for instant messaging, because MSN Messenger sux. Trillian finally got me using AOL IM, because ICQ and MSN are way better then AOL IM, and then they ban Trillian-users from their messenger! It's not microsoft that's bad, it's AOL. Let's get all rid of AOL and use some other messenger instead.
By the way, is there 1 person in this world that uses Yahoo IM?

way to go. support that company that way they can keep making software for you to pirate.

So it costs a lot, you know what then? You don't use it. Give it several years and the price will come down. The price might seem a little high, but thats their right, And you don't need XP to run software, the windows you had would have worked, maybe not quite as well, but you were useing it before weren't you? so it must have worked at least okay.

Sorry but this is the single stupidest paragraph i think i have ever read.

I dissagree with some of you. XP isn't totally stable and will never go near 2000. It works better than 2000 though. Yes i own all Microsoft OS' and XP i have the corporate edition (im not wasting £400 for a CD!!)

On the Linux issue, ive never used the OS and ive heard that most versions of it truelly suck!

On the angry persons comment where he said about Winamp and Trillian i apologise. I didnt make my point clear so here we are: TALKING ON THE YAHOO, AOL FORUMS AND TO RANDOM PEOPLE ON TRILLIAN IS NOWHERE AS GOOD AS THE WINAMP FORUMS COS THIS IS A COMMUNITY AND ON AOL AND YAHOO FORUMS PEOPLE FUCK AROUND AND ITS VERY VERY BORING

I hope you will not misenterperate that again!
Ive heard for quite some time about AOL the ISP (not AIM) will be blocked by or will be blocking microsoft.

I don't dissagree with the comment someone made about Microsoft products (I think it was Phisherman) I just want to remind you all again of this:

XP Plus!

CONTENTS OF THE 300MB disk:
  • An audio converter mp3 - wma (which you can get for free on net)
  • A CD lable template thingy
  • Media Player skins (3!!! possible 4)
  • 3 lame Media Player visualisations
  • 3 games (2 short levels each) (YOU HAVE TO BUY THE REST!!!)
  • 4 lowsy desktop themes
  • 8 boring screensavers which Win 98 plus pus to shame!

THIS DISK IS £40 ($57.28)!!

2 questions, 2 simple YES / NO reply

1. Would you pay £40 ($57.28) on the shit i listed
2. Is it value for money?

Well, since this thread is back, and since my attempt to lighten the mood earlier didn't work, I guess I'll put in my two cents.

We live in a corporate world right now. Microsoft is no different than any other large corporation such as Wal-Mart, Time Warner, McDonalds, ****, etc. as far as their business practices go. If one does not agree with these practices one has the choice to either use their products or not.

In this day and age if somebody wanted not to support large corporations you'd have to go live in a cave, grow your own food and make your own clothes. How many people here like the movie The Matrix? Well, The Matrix is distributed by Time Warner/AOL. Every time you rent, buy, or watch The Matrix you are supporting this company. Even if it is a pirated copy, you are still supporting them by promoting their product (there's no such thing as bad publicity...). The same goes for many of the books, television, supermarkets, clothing, movies, appliances and electronics, utilities, ad infinitum, in our culture.

Large corporations are responsible for the majority of what's available to us as consumers. In my own community I try to support local businesses as much as possible, and when I go to large corporate store I remind myself that I do so out of choice, and I don't complain about it. The same goes for Windows and Microsoft. I use Windows because currently it is the most accessible OS for me. Do I agree with all of MS's business practices? No. Do I feel "forced" to use Windows? No. There are other choices out there, and it's possible in the future I will use Linux, or even a Mac. There are always choices.

Anyway, that's my two cents. [/end rant mode]

You've never used the product, so don't bash it. The new Red Hat Linux is extremely good. The only reason people bash Linux is because they don't know how to correctly use it. Linux was originally designed for a business. The creator never meant it for a lot of games. I enjoy running Linux (on my old machine) because it is great for programming. Windows it totally not all that great for programming. I am thinking about investing in a new IMac soon as I would love to be running Mac OSX on one of my own machines. Its is by far the best graphics designing OS ever.
