How To : Hidden SHOUTcast Console

I hope this is helpful to people (and in the most appropriate forum), but I have found how to run the console hidden in windows.

When I searched I found how to do it in linux, and I eventualy found in some post how to do it. So I thought I'd post this, hopefuly its easier for windows users to find.

In your SHOUTcast install directory (C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\ is the default) create a SHOUTcast.js file (you can create a .txt file and then just rename it.. might even be able to run the .txt..).

Edit the file in your favourite text editor (NotePad++ for me ) and paste this following code.
var WindowStyle_Hidden = 0;
var objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell");
var result = objShell.Run("cmd.exe /c \"C:\\Program Files\\SHOUTcast\\sc_serv.exe\"", WindowStyle_Hidden);

Replacing that directory in there, with a directory to your file. You must make sure you put an extra \ in for directorys, and around the inside ". This just escapes the characters.

On your desktop (or statup folder?) create a short-cut.
When it says "Type the location of the item:", write
C:\Windows\System32\wscript.exe "C:\Program Files\SHOUTcast\SHOUTcast.js"

Again, changing directorys where needed.

Now when you run this shortcut (or turn on your computer?) your SHOUTcast server will automaticly start. To close it, or check that it is still running, you'll have to do so via task manager, looking for the process sv_serv.exe

So, or

I run mine as a sevice, so there is no console present ever. Works just fine for me as that is the only thing that machine ever does.

Your mileage may vary!

If you want to stop it you can create short-cut with location:
taskkill /F /IM sc_serv.exe

A little odd to execute a javascript in order to kickstart a windows process. I'd be curious if a similar approach would be possible on linux, eg remote server doesn't start, grabs index.html and then kick starts shoutcast.

What I do with SHOUTcast otherwise on TuneIn
