Re: July 2006 Favourites

You can't argue with the stats.

It's hard to pick an album as I've been listening to random tracks all month. However, I'd go for:

Ultra Vivid Scene - Ultra Vivid Scene (1988)

They started as the poor man's Jesus & Mary Chain, and developed into the thirtysomething's Velvet Underground. Not bad.

I have nothing against ambient Armenians. Perhaps, that's what the world needs?!

Hehe. Actually, he was "discovered" by Eno himself.
I use precautions now, since you've officially labelled me as "weird" when I introduced you to the art of Lee Ellen Shoemaker (a.k.a The Tunnel Singer).

"Weird" is only a concept.

Tunnel singing goes back 2 million years or so. Who knows, it was probably the first of all genres!

Sigur Ros - () (2002)

Didn't really know them. Beautiful, sad stuff.

Highly recommended.

Sigur Ros seconded.

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway.

The amount of girls into Sigur Ros is staggering. And this is a man who 'whines' over the top of elegantly crafted music (like pouring red wine over expensive carpet).

The Presets - Beams (2005)

Seems a strange concept, Aussies going disco. But if Cut Copy can do it, anyone can do it.

Arms of Someone New - Love, Power & Justice (1986)

A blend of Danse Society, Wolfgang Press, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry.

Yes, in other words, a run-of-the-mill depressive band who sound like they just won the lottery but lost the ticket.

The Kooks - Inside In/Inside Out (2006)

I'm not sure who they remind me of, probably several bands rolled into one.
