ok, its what 2010 and this thread started back in 2001.

i'm going to say what all of us in this thread have been saying for nearly a decade.

TOLD YOU SO!

your ignorance in not developing a ppc/pda/smartphone version of winamp and selling it was a very stupid mistake. us users knew the potential and the future ****** of the pda/smartphone market but nullsoft just scoffed us off as if we knew nothing.

WRONG! imagine if you had a Winamp app for android? or webos? charge a mere $5 and you'd pay for your development in the first week (given its a good app) and add in shoutcast radio station listings??

seriously, you guys screwed up and missed a HUGE opportunity. maybe you should listen to your customers/users a bit more instead of taking the 'NO, not happening or why would you do that' mentality.

back to my Nexus One and listening to music in the crappy audio app. guess i'll go and buy a $5 music player app (too bad winamp isn't out there, they'd have my $5)

Hey smartass that told us so. You can't port Winamp to ANY other operating system, you'd have to write a whole new application. You might as well do it yourself.

When can you start?

Your wishful thinking still fails on many accounts: (most of which have probably been covered already)

#1 Winamp relies heavily on Win32 APIs, rewriting would take too many resources and time on what is already a very small team of programmers

#2 related to #1, the plugin architecture would not be compatible so many plugin devs would have to rewrite their plugins. Chances are there would be very few who would, so you would only have the basic player to work with. And I also suspect that with iPhone and Android, etc, plugins would be a big no-no anyway.

#3 the GUI interface would not translate very well to a small screen, so that would have to be redesigned, probably breaking the media library in the proccess.

So in summary, if Winamp were ported to some PDA/Phone platform it would be only what I would call Winamp-in-name-only, or WINO for short.

I remember when people asked for mobile versions of Winamp all the time. "ZOMG WHERE IS THE POCKETPC VERSION?!" and various other posts like that. lol. Good times.

they still ask for versions of other phones, and other platforms and everything else and then bitch that something new isn't like the desktop version - as was said was always going to be the case for any non-Windows Winamp thing. *moan*

eh good point but honestly nothing would be preferable in this case, if anything it just makes the real winamp look slightly more shit by association.
