Winamp News

As you all surely know by now, Winamp & SHOUTcast have recently changed ownership (from AOL to Radionomy).

The winamp.com website is currently undergoing heavy work and an almost-completely new redesign.
As a result, many features will be unavailable, including some in-client services.

The Winamp downloads and Winamp Pro purchases will also be temporarily unavailable
whilst code licensed to/by the previous owner is removed/replaced.

We hope to have everything restored and back in working order as soon as possible,
and we apologize for any inconvenience caused in the meantime.

Updated info about the next Winamp release can be found in the following posts in this thread:

More Winamp skins, just Classics, but a lot (5448):
http://www.winampskins.info/

And I would add another one just for the sake of archiving (besides it has a couple of hard to find skins):

Thanks. The filehippo link has now been removed from the 2nd post.
5.666 is the latest & only supported version and is newer than the dead/expired old 5.7 beta.

That is not a llama sound; llamas don't bleat. Llamas make a wide variety of noises, the most common of which is a hum, whine, or groan (depending on the pitch). They also have a unique alarm call (rather like a cross between a whinny and a bray) and the males "orgle" constantly while mating (which may last as long as 45 minutes. When fighting, the males make the type of sound one might imagine an angry dinosaur would make. A variety of llama sound clips can be found at http://www.soundboard.com/sb/Llama_sounds_audio. Frankly, the only reason I've stuck with Winamp (and it is losing ground on ability to subscribe to podcasts), is because of the llama logo. I hope the new improved Winamp will be more robust and use a more standardized means of allowing one to subscribe to podcasts. I really don't want to switch to iTunes.

you'll need to provide examples of podcasts that you are having issues with. as only RSS versions are supported so maybe its one of the other formats which you're trying to add but without an example link I cannot be used if its expected to not import or if you've stumbled upon an unknown bug.

Since we are on the subject...
I use Winamp for all of my RSS podcasts. But I have noticed that sometimes winamp doesn't pull over the metadata that is in the podcast. If I download that same podcast from Itunes, the file has metadata in it. (artist, title, notes etc.)
Currently I am at work so I don't have a specific example for you, but I will have one later if you need it. Plus I don't know if this is just me or everyone.

Here is an RSS example.

It just seems like winamp and itunes brings down different metadata.

That is all
Thanks

Could you explain? Mine looks nothing like that, where did you get Winamp and what version is it? No, I don't mean the skin. I'm talking about the about page, here's mine for example

Edit:haynz you should check for viruses, rootkits etc. and get rid of it to be safe, I just installed from http://winampplugins.co.uk/Winamp/ just to check and there is no difference from my screen shot... tell us where you got this so we can keep people away from it.

I would like to suggest that the next version of winamp be:

Winamp 7 Radionomy edition

...and that the hallmark of this winamp be that all plugins must be verified as working with winamp7. this means building in a plugin verifier to winamp that can't be defeated and making a clean break with ALL previous plugins. in that way, only plugins which the devs verify as compliant will then be listed on the website.

that would also lay the groundwork for including a "winamp store" where both winamp, and 3rd party devs, can share the revenue made by plugin purchases, and that revenue will encourage more plugin development.

No, the next major version number is 8. It goes 1, 2, 3, 5, 8.

Mr. Sinatra,

I could not agree more with you. I hope that they do put a "Verifier" plugin into WinAmp 7 that cannot be defeated in any way, or, as they say, reverse engineered by anyone except the IT professionals at WinAmp.

Noooo.... I would suggest the next Version of Winamp will be called - in the good, humble tradition of small version increments (I love them) - just 5.67!

And I would anyway love to see no big changes in Winamp at all.... Somehow, I also would love to continue seeing the name "Nullsoft" in the resource strings. Just where "AOL" and AOL Logos were placed before, there could be placed Radionomy logos...

But that's just my suggestions

What ever will happen, I am somewhat confident that it will be just fine.

it needs changes, or else it will suffer the same fate under Radionomy that it did under AOL.

the whole plugin system needs a new and different approach, if only to end the constant issue of old plugins breaking current winamp releases. new revenue wouldn't hurt either.

New version should be >5.7 so people do not think that 5.7 Beta is newest. (the problem we had with 5.65 and 5.66)

As for the plugin system, if they don't host the whole old Winamp.com database all should be fine.

Uhhh... if the final version looks like that... uhhh... errr...

I'm viewing it on a 22" widescreen monitor.. so much wasted space. 6x6 inch images? Almost like it's designed for smartphones/tablets with small screens only at the moment. Anyway, I'll save future comments until someone says it's complete. LOL.

Looking forward to what is in store. Another long time winamp user here and hopefully it will only keep getting longer. I hope this news means the android app will be getting updates soon. All I could want is for the app to use the android apis for player controls, so it can use the normal lockscreen controls.

Also I guess I caught the site during the changes earlier today. Hit the current front page, but when I went to the forums I could navigate to anywhere. Which was lucky since I was grabbing the install and a skin since my computer got wiped at work, lol.
