Winamp does not open any Files at Double Click.

I was Using winamp 5.66 but it had some problems with some of my favourite Radion Stations. so i decided to update Winamp to 5.8 and now i cannot play anything from Explorer or desktop. (I downloaded directly from the Homepage)
Even the entries of drop down menu (File Explorer)are missing.

I've tried everything from different settings to a clean install. Winamp simply Refuse to work from explorer.
I can only start Files from playlist by dragging them there and select them. this is too complicated to play a single file.

Anyone have this problem too ?
Im using Windows 10 Pro.

Thanks in Advance

5.8 is a leaked beta with some serious issues

best thing to do , go back to the lastest stable release

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=373755

and do a clean install

I get "Error Syncing to Stream." This was the main reason why i updated but it was too buggy.

Made a downgrade and it works but my Fav Radio stations do not work anymore.

With 5.8 it worked Also my Shoutcast app on Android can play these Stations. They are active.

was it a clean install?

de install software and remove the winamp folder from the systemfiles?
or did you just install the 5.66 version over the 5.8 version?

I saved my playlists and deleted all remaining files to start over.

But i found alternative links which worked fine.

On modern versions of Windows (10/11 mostly), when you update/re-install or install on the top of other Winamp versions, you've to re-config the default (audio file) associations (mp3, wav, m4a, etc) with Winamp again, because they break. (for me, at least)

I did same with Right-Click "Open With" and set it to Winamp. I even set Winamp as Default player. Didnt work with 5.6 either.

Then i did your way and it works. Before Winamp just Openen but did nothing..
Strange. But at least it works as intended.

Thank you. Props to you

Glad I helped.
That's probably due to the Windows API support with Winamp. Windows might have done some changes to the API about handling the associations and made some programs (like Winamp) incompatible. That's probably why the versions 5.64-5.8 couldn't associcate automaticlly the extensions. I wonder how the "Deafult Browser" assocication changes on the Opera Browser. That gave me an idea to make an installation script for Winamp that fixes some problems like this one.
