Big update

The skin's taking shape. What I think will be a real hassle is recolouring the right side of the skin. The texturing and whatnot won't be the same. It's just to be realistic.

But I love this skin.

No. That's what I did for the outlines. The colouring would look unrealistic. I said that it won't be the same. Well, it shouldn't be the same. The dents and marks on the metal/bone/whatever shouldn't be exactly symmetrical. That's unreal.

To be honest, I don't like the gradienty nature of it...

Good try though! That shape could be a new skin for you.

I'll consider that, Bobo.

Colouring is almost done. While nice, this is painful. Takes so long to get it right.

just out of curiosity, what are you using to make this? aribrush? paintbrush, gradients, layer styles, a mix? is there a program that can record your screen like a movie? I would love to watch this (and many others) skin be made step by step by step!

dlink, it's ALL airbrush. And the line tool. But I always rasterize those. The airbrush is one of the most powerful tools in Photoshop.

If you're really curious, so far, this thing only has 25 layers minus the background, in 10 sets.

I'll agree with the single pixels though; the shift-drag for straight lines etc. is better in mspaint as well (than in PSP); but there are programs like Ultimate Paint with all of paint's advantages but less of its shortcomings anyway...

But wouldn't it be overkill to find, download and install a program to do pretty much what Paint does if you use PSP/PS/Fireworks/Corel/etc.?

Everything in main is done - except for the LCD? Wtf? I can't think of anything. I tried taking the LCD from Visional Memory 2 (unpublished), but it looked too unrealistic. It seems as though I need not a traditional LCD, but a very realistic looking display (not necessarily LCD) to go with the rest of the skin...

Any ideas?

Lemme see what I can do. I just think that with this skin, it'd look weird without a highlight or a shadow of some sort on the display.

Something like this?

P.S. I made this in Paint, so if you like it you should probably touch it up a bit...

Yeah! That looks good... problem is... if I do that, the shadow will run into the text area... in fact, part of the border is already hitting the text area, so it's gonna be ugly anyhow... what should I do?

idk if this will work, but why not try to make that area really glassy and smooth, almost futuristic. I think the contrast between teh bone and a really high-gloss part would look kinda cool.

Mebbe some sort of nifty, thin-like boarder around it that doesn't have a shadow inside but has one outside. See attached.

ooh, nice!

For the LCD, I'd definitely go with another earthy colour, like dark brown. Some nice thick lettering/numbering might look good.

There's almost too much detail at the top corners, IMO, I certainly wouldn't put more detail there. The cbuttons/shufrep are nice, but they're not that special, so having them all the same seems a bit boring.

that's just because it isn't integrated at all. And to make it not look out of place would require redoing that whole side.
