Ethical File Sharing

When many people, including myself, downloads mp3's of a band, they think "It's ok, if I like the band I'll see a show/buy some merchandise, and then the band will earn for the work they've done". That's all well and good for music, it cuts out the "evil" capitalist record company and gives money to the bands that deserve it.

My question is, can you find a similar comparison for TV/Movies/Games? If not is it unethical to download them?

Honestly, I could care less. They're still making more money than me.

If you think something is good, buy it. That's how the economy works. You're voting with your money.

Basically, what I'm saying is, go out and buy Elite Beat Agents right now. I don't care whether you have a DS or not. You need to buy it so they'll make a sequel.

I first watched season 1 and 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender by downloading them.

The Season 1 and 2 box sets now sit on my DVD rack.

Same with Dragonball Z, and my manga. Watched/read it online before I bought it.

And since I don't get the Showtime channel, I have to watch Dexter by downloading it. The season 1 box set is also on my DVD rack now.

Also, if you do plan to download a video game, don't post about it on your livejournal, or the guy who designed the game might make fun of you.

Well, seeing as the companies that they are signed to are not much ethical. Why should anyone else be for that matter. Games are a slightly different matter since they don't employ legal terrorist agencies.

I say that those companies deserve it because even in this day and age, I still have to pay for the whole album for one song half the time MP3 or not. ITs their fault for slapping the dollar out of my hand and beg for more.

Seriously, if I buy an album I should atleast be thanked with a free download of the remix or something.

Why should it be "ethical" to download something? It all boils down to not paying for stuff. That's the essential justification. Why try to dress it up?

I pay for it eventually when its comes on TV or the companies with the advertisements are paying for me to see.

Yes and no. EBA is based on a Japanese game (Osu Tatakae Ouendan), and that game got a sequel. But EBA came out as a pretty different game from OTO (different songs, different stories, different characters), so I'd expect EBA2 to be pretty different from OTO2 as well. When OTO2 was announced, people figured that EBA2 was "pretty much a given," but so far it hasn't even been announced

The site you linked to slowed down my computer and caused my task manager to flatline at 100% CPU usage!

Anyone else have that problem? I certainly didn't. Sounds like you need a better ad blocker.

Or a better computer

I was running firefox with adblock plus on. It was as if I had just started AVS - instant 100%. Anyway, it was back to normal a second or two after I closed that window.
