Dust everywhere

Two weeks back my plumbing in the bathroom was smashed to piece by a plumber who came because the water didn't go down the drain.

They repared it a few days later and since i rent the house the landlord has to do the repairs.

our bathroom was beyond repairing and the landlord decided that it was due for a complete renovation.

today was day one.
they broke down the walls and the floor. There is dust everywhere in the house.
the tv set is white and you breathe dust.

tomorrow the plumber comes in to get everything installed the right way and than i am facing another week before my totally new bathroom can be used.

good thing is my parents inlaw are living only two streets away and we got our own key to their place.

Each Thursday a new show on Celtica Radio with Darkwave music.

I know plumbers can get excited at the prospect of a big job, so if he smashed the bathroom to pieces when he came just because water wasn't draining, he might take out the whole house if he comes because he's going to install a new bathroom.

No one put dust barriers in the doorways?? ... but yeah, the landlord paid the plumber to trash the plumbing, trust me.

Here in New York(LI) they drop cloth everything! They don't want to be sued for ruinning your furniture or equipment.

I don't know about dust barriers, but anybody I know would have at least brought some tarps to catch most of the dust..... were a guy to make a bunch of dust... I've pulled drywall out without making a mess.... The right tool is a crowbar. I don't know why that would make a house wide mess since you are trying to pull it out in fairly large pieces. When I got down to pulling pieces out of the crannies, a screwdriver and a shop vac work good.

Getting drywall dust out of things (carpets, equipment, furniture) isn't easy or cool. It's not professional for a contractor to make a snow storm in your house.

I usually try and have a fan blowing out the exterior window closest to the work site if possible, e.g. if your bathroom has a window, then a fan blowing the dust out would be good (you'd need another window or door open to allow clean intake). Otherwise it would be wise to at least cover the doors with sheets and/or tarps as RoH said. Without dust control, that shit could show you allergies you never knew you had.

I'm sorry that you're without the can and shower... but at least it'll be nice when done (hoping the landlord bought decent quality stuff). You should post pictures for shits and giggles.

Since its going to take long, buy plastic covers or anything that can cover your appliances , tv's etc...its easier to clean and vacuum that way

Was the plumber your landlords choice? If so are you sure he's actually a plumber? I've known landlords to use unqualified relatives.

I do "unqualified" work for landlords quite often, but I never bite off more than I can chew. As long as someone isn't in over his/her head and keeping up to code, he/she shouldn't cause you to worry.

At least you don't have any latent asbestos issues. Yet...

I am so important I feel the need to let it be known like a liberal discovering the internets for the first time. Uh hur hur hur. I also wash myself with a rag on a stick.

Asbestos is only dangerous if it's flaking or when you try to get rid of it. Leave it alone.
