Why Doesn't It Play Cda Audio!?

Why doesn't winamp3 support audio CD's? And is there anyway I can make it play CD's?

because it is an alpha, many features have not been implimented yet. i assure you, that in the future, it will be possible to play cd audio.

if you need to play cd audio, use winamp 2.

respond with a flame, i will delete your post.

You can play CD's, But....

Winamp is a media player, mp3 is a plug-in after all. Cda is an extended wav format called redbook (it includes error correction).

So, since wa3 now plays wav files, if you really want to play CD's, there us a way. I don't know where to get the file offhand, but there is a replacement cdfs.vxd file (the version number is older than the one that comes with windows, any version of windows) i think its like 1980 or something like that. When you find the file their will usually be a page that explains it.

This file allows you to see the cda files as wav data and to therefore play it in wa3. But no names in wa3, except track number.

PS: Don't delete the old cdfs.vxd, it allows for normal cda reading and you'll probably put it back.

Replacement CDFS.VXD

Hi. If you want to play audio CDs in Winamp, then download the following file and install it as per the instructions. Make sure you backup the original cdfs.vxd first, just in case something goes wrong.

This will only work on Windows 95 and Windows 98. Possibly WindowsME, but I'm not sure. I know it DOESN'T work on NT/2K/XP.

As I said in the other post, I KNOW IT ONLY WORKS ON WIN95/98!

And looking at the stats, a hell of a lot of people are still on Win98, so I'm glad to be helping them, and if the info doesn't help you, so what? I tried didn't I. You'll just have to hold your dick and wait for Nullsoft to add it.

Man, I didn't notice that last line of your post. Also stats show that a lot the people on Windows 98 will be switching over within the next 6 months. Maybe we need to find a way to get it to work on newer OSs.

Is there any way to use the SDK to develope a WAC file?

By the way your a bit grumpy Garry. May I recommend a Nap and nice hot meal?

The stats don't show that at all. Due to the inflated system requirements of WindowsXP there's actually a very slow projected take-up rate, so get your facts right before posting.

And no you may not suggest anything.

Garry: Good work on the cdfs.vxd. I've seen two seperate threads where you've posted this info and been flamed for it not working on nt/2k/xp. Just wanted you to know that I appreciated it and that MEMBERS WHO CAN'T READ A WHOLE POST SHOULDN'T FLAME HELPFUL PEOPLE.

Thank you,

I was away for a while.
But I'm feeling much better now.

Ok. Now I am really confused. When was I flaming Garry? No I wasn't. Just because I didn't read the last line of the post doesn't mean that I am a bad person. Actually the reason I ran over it was because I was excited to test it out and when it didn't work I was disappointed. So I didn't go back to the message and read the last part.

Also for the part about the stats. I guess that I was wrong but from what I know a lot of the people that I talk to are already moving to it. I guess I forgot that my friends are all huge fans of computers and have the requirements needed for XP.

Anyways I still find that you are completely rude Garry and that given that I may have been wrong doesn't mean that you have to respond in such a negative way. Some people

Id give GuitarKidp my infamous "RETARD AWAWRD", but Photoshop doesnt want to start...

As I understand it, the W3 alpha can only play .mp3's and .wav's

Well at one point you said "As I said in the other post, I KNOW IT ONLY WORKS ON WIN95/98!". When you use explanation points and CAPs like this. It is considered shouting. An obviously that shouting was direceted towards me.

In another post you said "And no you may not suggest anything." Well that was friendly advice that you took negatively.

So from these two examples I conclude that you were being rude no matter what you say. Also I have no reason to apoligize to you. For what anyways? I made a mistake and you shouted at me. Why should I apologize?

Once again reaffirming my stance on the flaming. In my original post it wasn't suppost to be a flame nor was the message even directed at Garry. It was directed at the members of the forum to let them know that it didn't work for Win98 and newer OSs. As I was informed later, Garry had already written that and I missed it. So where is the flame Gonzotek?

Anyways this is my final post on the subject, since both of you can't make any logical arguements or agree on what I have to say so I hope you two grow up at some point in you life.

Not good to pick fights with someone who has been in the community since 94 and has deep ties with Winamp3 Garry. I have been a member of this forum longer as well. Plus I have more postings.
