constant crashes when adding to library (no bad files)

i have been using the media library for several years but in the last few months have experienced constant unexplained crashes when trying to add stuff to it. the only way to add large folders full of stuff had became to add three or four folders (albums) at a time. occasionally one such adding causes the media library to crash. it gets restarted, the same folders are added and it works fine. to repeat: there are no bad files. if you tried to add a large, 500mb+ folder there is virtually no chance it's going to get through adding file information without crashing, which is why it had to be done in very time consuming and extremely irritating little parts. i eventually gave up on winamp entirely about a week ago after trying various solutions suggested to people for similar (but not identical) problems and looked to other programs. unfortunately, mediamonkey, musikcube and itunes are all unusably slow (my library is just over 2TB). so i returned to winamp and decided to wipe the whole library and start again. this worked great initially, adding the first of my two harddrives (about 900gb) without a problem. but as i started to add the second, in large increments (about 50-100 gb each), it started crashing occasionally. then the crashes gradually became more and more frequent and now it's back to the same unusable state as before, unable to add more than a couple of folders without crashing. it is as if the database is becoming gradually more and more corrupted and unstable the more it expands.

i should also point out the same problem has occurred on two entirely different computers and, in the case of about 60% of the files, different external harddrives. i. do. not. understand.
