Clannad: Irish folk(?) music(most of those in the Great Britain have probably heard of them)

Stevie Ray Vaughn: Blues (he died in the early 90's, but his music is still around)

Mazzy Star: Alternative (I only heard one album, and I think that's all she's done)

Yeah. I was into Clannad back in the late 70's to early 90's.
Top vibes!

'Macalla' & 'Magical Ring' albums = file under essential.

'Atlantic Realm' soundtrack = truly beautiful

yay!

Everyone's heard of Enya, no doubt (ie. sister of Maire and Ciaran from Clannad)

Micheal will never learn to rock.

it's even worst than having to listen to simply red.

If you have any problem with me……..tell it directly. You can tell me whatever you want i.e. my taste of music sucks , I don’t have sense of humour....anything, won’t bother
But don’t you dare to insult MLTR.Its not at all fair to say something against a great band without even knowing much ‘bout them(only two songs, how funny )

All pop music is good music but all good music isn't pop music
Wanna know more about pop music or my boy-bands?

'folk metal' sounds like a contradiction.... I'll take your word for it.
Folk metal has nothing to do with "folk" music, rather its discourse usually relates to our ancient aryan folkish traditions.

ENOUGH!

apola, quit being such a damn brat. Jesus flippin' christ you've gone beyond annoying. You've got the gall, to sit there and whine worse than my four-year-old. If you don't want your precious boy bands to be constantly bashed, then shut the hell up about them already. Is that too hard to understand?

I apologize to Bongfish for the derailment of his thread.

T.S.O.L = (true sounds of libtery)
(Old School/Punk/Hardcore/Metal/Rock)
Over time the band went through many changes in members and styles. Finally we got the original members back together (the guys that started the band) and this web site is dedicated and made of the "original" TSOL, but in case you have confusion on what or who the hell TSOL is, well then this History of the band should help.

Ugh, I don't like Type O at all. Entirely too goth for me. The guitars kick serious ass though. One of my friends loves them and is always playing a song, something about loving the dead, which would be good if the singer would shut his mouth.

You think obscure hardcore and hip hop artists are bands that everyone should hear once in their life?! What about the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, and countless artists that were actually important? If you think everyone should hear these artists, why wouldn't you have them listen to the ones that mattered?

Uhh... ViperJackson, I believe you missed the point of this thread. We're recommending bands/artists that may not be widely known. We all know the importance the groups that you have listed. This is what this little forum is for, music, known or obscure, we're here for the music

That and it's easier to decide if you actually like something without years of "But it's classic and you suck if you don't like it" weighing in behind it.

I like old "important" bands too but there is so much good music out there that not many know about it. Just gotta spread the love around.

I "broke the rule" myself and listed one well known classic rock band as one I considered "essential listening".

But saying that a band isn't good unless they're well-known is a bit of an arrogant attitude. I'm not calling you arrogant, only that general attitude.

The vast majority of the music I like, for instance, never got radio airplay, but I still consider it good music.

I'm a psychosomatic sister running around without a leash.

I'm not saying that if they aren't well known, they aren't good. Unfortunately, a lot of underground bands aren't important. They might be cool, but they aren't important. And the point of this thread was "Artists everyone should listen to." Excuse me for misinterpretting that.

My suggestion was Curve... Everyone should listen to them, but not everyone would appreciate it.

The sad truth is, most people are tailor-made for the mainstream and haven't the patience for deep music. Well, their loss.

Just listened to that Curve song I got from you Cylob and I'm gonna have to abstain on them. Not my usual type of music and I'm quite undecided on that. It didn't get immediatly deleted though which says at least one good thing about it.

Ok, I don't really like it, and it is breaking the thread rules (more then 3); but here it is anyways.

Listen to it if only for the knowledge that it is possible to cram 99 songs into 20 minutes and not have a fragmented feel. Weird-ass Grindcore stuff.

I'll just name one artist since most of you don't care about my hoity toity reccomendations:

Karlienz Stockhausen

The original bridge between classical and early early electronic, he is one of the many faces on the famous Sgt. Pepper album. (5th from the left on the back row)

Often because someone rearranges a beat so that it goes Boom Boom Hiss instead of Hiss Boom Boom nowadays they are considered revolutionary, while real inventors pushing the boundries work in the shadows.

The below link is the ascent movement from the "Helicopter Quartet" scored for four Helicopters (Supplied by the Austrian Army) and a String Quartet. (One string instrument inside each helicopter)

http://www.stockhausen.org/heli_mp3.html

More Info
http://www.stockhausen.org/helicopter_intro.html

Now is the time for all good Americans to come to the aid of their Country
