How to survive in Music O'Rama

Due to a new member, yxs (welcome to the insanity!), who's been bashed at another place for her devotion to the group, Hanson, we would like to give you some advice. This goes for all newbies that wander their way here, too.

1) Boybands are evil. We don't mind a few references to such. But, if you persist in posting in a sickening fashion... oh, bother, just read this thread and you'll get the idea:

You must click here

I haven't had enough coffee yet. Not very coherent right now.

But it happened, actually.

And, lol, well now I laugh about it. I'm not even that big of a fan of Hanson. Just trying to say a few things about an obviously talented band.

I don't know if boybands are to be hated or not.
They exist, always will.

But hey... I'm done with this (on any forum).

Now I just listen to this huge stack of fave artists that I have and well, try to keep that to myself I guess. What can you do!

I mean... ok, it's understandable when you go and bash some band on some forum dedicated to this band or this genre... but this was just plain bizarre.

I meant boy bands as in groups who stand on a stage, do very little and just sing/mime whilst not having any proper talent such as playing instruments

Oh yes, those indeed. Should be hated.
The same kind of girl groups also.

But they just keep coming...

Continuing the How to Survive in Music O-Rama Guidelines...

2) Cylob has the final say on what's good and what's not. He, as the Forum Music King, is not to be disputed on these matters.

(Except where contemporary mainstream non-boy-band pop music is concerned...in these cases, you should take what he says with a grain of salt.)

What makes you think that? No, I'm not Canadian... or American or British... hehee... I'm Estonian. Actually I have no idea where most people in here are from.

Music... ohh, I like so much stuff... it's better to mention genres... rock (a bit of metal too if it's melodic enough), blues, folk, country, R&B, soul... well, a bit of pop here and there if it's well made. Artists that are not too mainstream and not really alternative either. Something in between. A good voice is always something I appreciate.

You're among friends, indeed.

As for where people are from, here are some of the ones I know...the ones that post in the music forum a lot, anyway...

me - US
Cylob - Great Britain
Spaceplay - Holland
ShyShy - US
ertman - Denmark
taylormemer - Australia

Except when the music has been written before 1920, where his Jurisdiction ends and mine begins.

Not all boybands are evil; I am a huge fan of both Conan O Brien's "DUDEZ A PLENTI" (Dudes with a Z, Plenty with an I- there's not much we can do with the A) and Jack in the Box's "Meaty Cheesy Boys"

Also, from my observation, Boyband followers and followers of bands that the "Rock Music Anti-Intelligentsia" have deemed not worthy (Limp Biscuit, Corn, Blink 182) recieve pretty much the same treatment - to paraphrase the general consciousness, "Mindless slaves who only eat what MTV spoonfeeds them" (Mentions of MTV and the word spoonfeed are very important in anti pop threads)

With such a climate, Pop/Popular Rock music fans who stay in the forum become this:

Quote:
Target is the guy everyone in a forum loves to hate. To some degree he brings this upon himself. For example, he may be a known cheater in a game forum, a conservative among liberals, a Windows guy among Mac enthusiasts, or even a man in a women's forum. Why Target places himself in such dicey situations is anyone's guess, but he seems genuinely oblivious to his precarious position. When Target inevitably runs afoul of a forum's prevailing attitudes the other Warriors unleash their collective fury upon him. His usual reaction is "Hey, what did I do?" or "Why do you all hate me?" Target usually gets the hint after a while and moves on. NOTE: Target often serves as a useful pressure valve for the forum's pent up hostilities. Therefore, if the current Target has been driven off or immobilized a new target will be quickly selected.

This is my attitude..... separate the music from the individual.

Any piss-taking is light-hearted and not directed at the person. It's all about the music, and personal taste.

There.

I could have hours of fun with a Hanson fan.

Hours....

To be sure, it goes without saying that the "Evil" isn't neccesarry. Calling a french person evil is like calling an obese woman fat.

Yes, always have something to back up what you say.
Cause internet is all about competition... who's smarter, has better taste in music... and can actually prove it's better and why it is.
