Hammerfall - Renegade - Classic Heavy / Power Metal

Iron Savior - Unification - Great Heavy Metal

Kittie is really the only mainstream chick-metal. Probably why they aren't that great. There are bunches of other more awesome female-fronted metal about, though.

Also, your band has some chunky assed riffs.

I really like them, but their lyrics piss me off. I was thinking along the lines of Arch Enemy or Leaves' Eyes, previously mentioned.

btw, Hypocrisy.

Yeah, it just sucks that they're used so often as examples of girls doing well in metal when they suck so badly and there's better girls in metal.

If you like girl-fronted rock/metal, you might like my mate's band Black River Falls; although most of their stuff's softer, they're steadily getting heavier. I'd recommend grabbing "Prison Cell" from the music page anyway.

Thanks. Hopefully we'll have some new stuff recorded sometime soon, it's getting much more awesome value these days.

Plus we cover "Pursuit of Vikings" by Amon Amarth now, which just rocks.

Because American Head Charge had 7 members until their guitarist died. They've had quite a few lineup changes (check it out).

I apologize; after listening to them (after my last post) they seemed like a mix of drum n' bass and metal. It was actually much better than expected. The song I listened to was "I am Loco" Not bad. I didn't see it as rap at all. I must have confused them with someone else at the time.

There's a band called "Pain" that has some really good stuff. I have lost the CD, and my mp3 backups don't have song titles. There are 8 tracks on a what I think was a self-titled album. One of the songs that I can remember is "The Last Drops of My Life". It's slow and intense, with lyrics that are very hard to hear, but deal with suicide.

Can someone help me locate a copy? In the meantime, try to get a hold of the band. It's good stuff.

Yes! That's the band, but the first self title album was very difficult for me to find, and now I can get it back. As it turns out the songs I have are the same as those listed for that album, but mine only had the first 8 tracks; they must have added two on a re-release or something. Here's the album cover of the one I had:

Strapping Young Lad is win.
Let's rock this joint...

PROGRESSIVE METAL:

Children of Bodom - the perfect blend of growling vocals and progressive instrumentals

Dream Theater - gods of progmetal

Evergrey - dark and heavy

Symphony X - progressive with a neo-classical taste

POWER METAL:

Blind Guardian - fathers of power metal

Rhapsody of Fire - dragons, swords, and war - what more could you ask?

Sonata Arctica - coming into their own, giving Stratovarius a run for their money

Stratovarius - gods of power metal

CHICK-FRONTED METAL:

After Forever - earlier works were better, beginning to fall a little more mainstream now

Lacuna Coil - the chick knows how to ROCK

The Gathering - my favorite vocalist, though they're starting to fall more under Rock anymore

Tristania - beautiful, haunting, heavy

Within Temptation - really filling out their sound in the last few years

DARKER METAL:

In Flames - one of the foremost melodic death metal bands

Nevermore - progressive death metal, dark and depressing

Opeth - not only a beautiful logo, but beautiful music

Type O Negative - you can't have the perfect list without PETER STEELE!

p.s. OMGZORZ BURZUM AND BATHORY!!!

Wow, I haven't listened to Moonspell in ages, have always enjoyed them fairly well. They don't have the sense of humor that Type O do, though

Fucking CLUTCH!!! I have two of their albums on cassette. Thanks for posting - Now I know what to listen to for the next few days. I saw them live at a Youngstown, OH bar called the Nyabinghi. They kick more ass than a redhead's stepdad.

C'MON MOTHERFUCKER, C'MON MOTHERFUCKER, C'MON MOTHER LET'S THROW DOWN
C'MON MOTHERFUCKER, C'MON MOTHERFUCKER, C'MON MOTHER LET'S GO

But would you consider them metal, or just offbeat rock?
