People,

I updated the tag information in another program for all the music I have

Then, when I was rating a song, it would hang

It's done that twice

And also

when I am trying to update the metadata for all files, it errors out.

What is going on?

The latest Winamp, 5.8
windows 10
.mp3
I use the ratings in the media library, default settings
I used tagman to tag my music library
It was already tagged, but I was trying to see how tagman could tag any missing tags.

By default, winamp does NOT save ratings to tags.

Forget tagman for now. Run the files thru mp3tag and mp3val.

No. So I wonder...

If winamp is crashing when u rate something and aren't saving tags, that is bewildering. It shouldn't matter but I want to know exactly what tag types u have, like id3v1.x, id3v2.x, ape, etc... mp3tag should show u this.

Be aware of this:

How many mp3s do you have?

I have used mp3tag too, to tag files.

id3v2

Also, it seems when I do read metadata in the older version, it seems fine.

Also, it seems tagman made the changes, I am seeing the changes in Winamp after reading metadata

Also there is another problem.

When I use the scroll bar to move the page up and down in media library, it causes the list to get distorted. Messed up. I wonder why? :/

Id3v2.x? What's the x?

And at this point ur confusing me.

Winamp was not writing ratings, but it will read them.

Are u saying everytime u rate a song in winamp, which saves only to the winamp DB, that alone is crashing winamp?

Do u have tagman open and use it at the same time as winamp? Do u rate with it?

I don't konow what .x

Tagman seems to write tag information to file.

But now it's not crashing winamp, because I am using the older version.

I don't use tagman while listening to music, no.

A few things to check.

1. Run Windows Task Manager (press control+alt+delete if using Windows XP - taskmon.exe for Windows 98) and when you double-click a new song to play, check to see if there's 100% CPU usage and whether or not Winamp is having 100% CPU usage. If it's not, then it's some other task in the background.
2. If it's some other task in the background, let the task finish or raise the priority of Winamp.
3. If it is Winamp having 100% CPU usage, tell what third-party plug-ins you have installed and verify that you've done a clean install of Winamp.
4. If these aren't the case, what type of file are you using and the format? What version of Winamp do you have?

Edit: a few more details for step 1.

Hi, I want to follow up on this.
Basically, does Winamp have support for id3 tag version 2.3? or 2.4?

It seems the software I used, used that version.

Anyone else experiences what I did?
