Started a new skin, based on an old comic cover, that was part of a series of alternative covers, anywho think I might be in over my head but so far so good and I'll see how far I 'll get

just wanted to ask your opinion on something though, first the hole in the background behind the Cbuttons, should I keep it or dump it, and second does the pipe with the Cbuttons look better in front or behind woman in the pic?

This looks great...I think a lot of guys will end up missing the eject/open button when trying to press it..

I'd keep the pipe with the cbuttons in front. After all, the eq sliders will be in front too..

Not sure about the hole...it doesnt look right to me..

I agree with Atmo on this one except I like the hole, I just don't think it fits in there, perhaps you could put in the Eq between the very first bar and the second.

If you think you can or think you can't...you're right.

Looks cool. I think the hole should go though, and the cbuttons should go in front.

I think the cbuttons look a lot better at the back. because, that way, the emphasis is on the picture, as it should be. If they are at the front, it's kind of saying that the buttons are more important than the picture, which is boring - because all skins have buttons, but only one has this picture. So, putting them at the back makes them blend better into the picture, and gives the woman more visual dominance. Yet, putting them at the back sacrifices practically no functionality.
It's kind of interesting, when the cbuttons are at the back they look about a metre away from the viewer; yet when at the front they are right in your face. It's interesting how much you can change the look of an entire picture with just 20 pixels or so!

The hole looks good.

thanx for the input guys, just did some work on the equalizer and found out that it will totally screw the skin up so I've decided to do two versions, one with the sliders and the Cbuttons in front and one without the sliders and the cbuttons in the back.

and I put the hole where kiwifreak suggested and that seems to work out quite well

I disagree. Keep the hole and the cbuttons behind. Also, subtler eq sliders would be great - perhaps something with light colors - one pixel borders and maybe animate with diff scenes?

i prefer the pipe from behind the woman fnar fnarr

you could crop the eq bmp so there are no sliders. it is a shame that they cover up the pic.
(but cropping renders the eq useless imo)

Yes, it is a shame that they cover up the pic, but no, you can't crop the eq sliders. (well, you can, but if you want you're skin published on winamp.com...) The skin review squad recently changed the rules, if I am not mistaken. All skins must be completely functional..all windows and buttons skinned.

Great bg pic, BTW. I hope you find a way to make the eq work. (I'd make a suggestion but I'm half asleep ATM ) Keep it up

Im glad you're doing 2 versions.

IMO it would be best to submit it with the sliders in place, include a file named eqmain1.bmp without the sliders, and have a note in the description and readme how to change them...

That way you wont lose any points for functionality.

Sorry, my mistake

I think what Atmo said about including another eqmain in the file is a good idea.

it's been a while but I've done a bit more work on it, progress is pretty slow, trying to get the hang of Photoshop 7 (I used to use 5.5, and I can't find anything in 7).

anywho made a bit of a radical change, didn't like the white background so I changed it, the hole had to go because of it,
still busy putting all the components back.

ley me know what you think

thats an neat looking skin - I don't know the reference or what its from but I like it - I think I like the cbutton bar behind the girl

I love the second one - the background changes are perfect

If anyone can find any of the skins I made please email them to Forevever@aol.com
I can't remember all the names but specifically hunting for Lascivious, and DEVOUR (compilation with Jax) and any in the Impulse series which had 6 total. Auriferous, Gilt, Impulse, Nadir, and 2 others I can't remember but you dig.

the girl is Rose Tatoo, she used to be in a comic called "Stormwatch", but they killed her off a couple of years ago, in fact the comic was actually canceled a couple of years ago too.

Guess she was just one of my favourite characters at the time, plus its art by one of my favourite artists Travis Charest

A few people have said they like the background, but I don't like it too much myself. It looks like she's standing inside a public toilet block, albeit a clean one. I think the tiles should be a bit darker, a bit dingier, to suite the sort of industrial/subway look of the rest. Also, the tiles look almost like a photograph, whereas the rest of it is very obviously illustrated, so that kind of clashes. The new smoke looks great.
Is the light too big to have as the AUTO button (light on/light off)? - that would look really cool. It looks too big, but you've got three lights seemingly in the ON, AUTO, and PRESET positions, so it seems as though you're going to do something like that.
Clutterbar's looking very good (as is most of it)

Nice, I like the way everything integrates together instead of looking stuck on. Especially the on/auto buttons on the eq. My only criticism is that it'll be a bit hard for newbies to use as some of the buttons are hard to see. But it looks great so far.

yeah, I guess it's not really a skin for newbies, but the alternative is labeling everything and that will screw up the pic, I tried to put some words on the lamps, but it just lookd really crappy, and IMHO it all just looks better without any labels, in fact the only thing that is sorta labeled, the shuffrep looks a bit iffy to me, but I can't think of any way to improve it

The volume and the cbuttons when in the press state are pretty hard to see

You're right. The shufrep is a bit iffy. I don't know how you'd change it. The only suggestion I've got is if you could make her cock the gun for the shuffle. You know, pretend it's a Luger (is that the one?) - you know, not the gun where you cock the hammer, but the gun where the whole back slides out and slides back in again. That would look pretty cool and be a bit more visually prominent than the blurry blue thing you've got going on. The gun looks like it could easily acommodate those changes.

The on/auto/preset buttons look great, of course. The monoster indicator is cool too - it's always nice to see someone use a slightly different system to the winamp norm. The whole vis/clutterbar thing is great. Looks even better now that I've got numbers on it (unlike with the ss before). Hmmm, because the pipe which is used for the scrolling text is so narrow (from top to bottom), and so dark at the top, the text is hard to read.
Keep us posted.

cocking the hammer on the gun sounds cool, not sure about me being able to pull it of though, so far I've just taken original art, moved it around, cleaned it up and played with the shades a bit.
plus I would like to see some sort of label on the shuffrep at least, just a little indicator to show me it's on or off, and something that you can easily recognize as either the on or off state, so there's no confusion if you have it on or off
