How come gen skins don't get rejected? You should make it part of the submission policy. Its annoying looking through the new skins only to find what sounded good from the name is a 1 star wonder.

Bit of an oddity really, we had/have a policy that says, everyone gets a fair crack at the whip, be that potatoshop masterpieces or generated gunk, that's how it's always been, winamp is for everyone .

However.... we did try and make the guidelines a little bit tougher,for example......

classic generated skins with missing windows (vid/lib) = Flushed (I dump loads like this every week)

modern generated skin with default wasabi frame windows = flushed

classic or modern generated skin that's complete = placed in WTF category only (WTF is flushed once a year or so to keep the numbers down)

Generated skins that are complete = rate 1 star or so.

We used to have a special 'generated' category, but that got merged in with WTF

What used to happend as well is the 'generated' category never showed skins on the 'most recent' list or any skins in it didn't show in the search, when the site database was tweaked some time ago WTF started to show again in the 'most recent' lists, I did ask for it to be sorted, but I think there were other tech issues that prevented it, not sure if WTF skins show up in searches or not, usually because the search function is so fucked most of the time it's hard to tell.

Maybe we should dump all generated stuff , maybe we shouldn't, but at least at the minute we try to limit what we take, how long we keep it and where we show it.

Oh ok, i'm glad you tried to get it like that. I didnt realise they all went into a single category as it was. Fair play

Also i guess it is sort of important that you can get a generated skin uploaded. My first skins were appauling (spray can and skinner.exe i believe ), but if i couldn't have seen those anywhere, i might have given up (maybe that would have been a good thing ). I guess we need those skins around, but just in the background

Oh my fuck, someone owes me a quid, just exactly which bits of the default classic base skin did you make in photoshop exactly?

If that's whats in the database at the minute, delete it now and save me the trouble of doing it for you.

You did not make the classic title bars, sliders, buttons, eq bars, eq buttons ANY of the playlist window (apart from colour tinting it)

You may have made the picture behind it and then slapped all the default classic skin stuff on top.

Sorry, but that is not acceptable for submission at winamp.com. anything with that ammount of base skin never will be, we told you that last year when you first appeared with skins of a almost identical nature.

End of.

so what do you think?

hey Mr Jones
what do you think?
sorry didn't understand what you meant when you replied today.
If I use playlist add a picture all the way it stretches to much and the picture then is impossible to see if there is a way to make it viewable in winamp all the windows tell me how otherwise im fine.
Remember i used adobe cs3 "Knights Honor"

Ok, I'll be blunt and say what everyone else is probably thinking.

Your skins, if they can even be called skins, suck.

They look like badly realised skinner crap, with far too much of the standard classic base skin dumped over a image.

For people who spend days, weeks & months making skins, they are an insult, which bit do you actually claim to have made?, certainly non of the controls, titlebars, sliders , they are from the classic base skin and made by Steve Gedikian and cetainly not you.

Did you make the background image?, I can't tell as it's totaly obscured by all the default controls.

For pitys sake, go put some effort into them or simply don't bother.

Bleeeeugh.

Here is an example of a half decent anime based skin
http://www.winamp.com/skins/details/150326

Notice how everything fits together, notice how it has nice original buttons and controls, notice how nothing is from the default base skin, I don't even like anime skins, but I can see the author of that has at least put some effort into making it.

Understand that?

The equalizer is not freeform.

Its basically a set of Vertial Lines repeated each next in line from left to right is an increase in wave positive or negative value.

Example in text:
__ __
| || |
| || |
| || |
| || |
| || |
__ __

You would skin the first as the lowest value ie -50. Then next on the line would be -48 and so on until you got to the end of that row.
Beginning with 0 on the 2nd Row of slides you would then decrease each image to complete the animation.

IE you could copy one and drop it into imageready then create an animation of x frames (i think there are like 16 or so) and you would then copy each frame from the imageready animation to the psd base you have in photoshop to reproduce the effect.

Of course this is slightly more advanced that just shoving a jpg onto existing graphics.

Hope this helps.

I know it has its downsides, but the "URL submitted by user" is pretty much the greatest thing ever. Look at that massive collection of fail.
