Migrate Comments

Hi there,

Windows XP Home
Winamp 5.51

problem: I want to copy my complete music collection to an external hard-drive. When I do so, all the "comment" information which I put a lot of work in is lost.

I haven't found any info about that by googling or searching this forum.

question(s):

* where is the "comment" info stored?
* what's the best way to migrate all my songs AND keep all the information I gathered, including comments, ratingstars, playlists and media library smart views?

Thx in advance

I swear I answered this question already this week. Comments are stored in the file tags and the Media Library database. Where did you write the comments from? This doesn't really matter as Winamp, by default, copies the comment into both the tags and the database.

The only way that I have successfully used to move files and keep ratings and playcounts is to use ml_impex. Use the "Read metadata on selection" feature of the ML afetr re-importing to remove any stupid tags it adds(Genre=Genre, etc.)

If you aren't removing Winamp then there should be no need to alter Smart Views. If one, or more, of them uses a path in the search query this will obviously need editing.
