Can I transfer photos to my ipod using winamp?

I just got a 80 gig ipod classic and I'm desperately trying not to install itunes.

Also, is there a way to update the firmware without itunes?

thanks

Fuck iPod, seriously.
I have never even touched one, let alone used one.
I love my cute little Zen Stone by Creative.
It was cheap, it's small, has 1GB which isn't a whole lot but it's enough, it charges on any basic USB (Including my Motorola Razor's charger from the wall!) and just generally kicks ass.
Fuck iPod. Go Creative. Also, Creative doesn't tend to bone you with an inferior product that requires regular and expensive maintenance, i.e. the battery.

i have a simple 512 mb mp3 player from samsung. i don't need pix or vids on an "MP3" player, because the display is too small imo. i also hate players that need any kind of software to transfer ur shit on the player. i want to plug it in and copy-pasta my music. that's all.

. . . without software?

My brother-in-law gave me a 4-gig ipod nano when he got an iphone. Seems handy - it's the only portable mp3 player I have ever used, other than an old portable mp3 cd player. The interface is real easy to learn and so far (knock on wood) I haven't had any bad battery issues with it. It's handy in the truck, but it can be plugged in there, and the few times I use it on battery power, it usually lasts a few hours. It uses USB power too - just shaped differently - as long as you have the right cord you can plug it into the wall/computer/etc. In the truck I have AC outlets (via power inverter), so the wall plug is all I need.

Like I said I have never tried any other portable digital media player other than laptops, which are far better for anything non-athletic, so I guess I haven't seen what's better/worse.

I like my iPod, but iTunes sucks enourmously.
I downloaded a brilliant plugin for iPod support, I can do everything I want now (including synchronization of photos).

You can download it here:

Some of the newer ones aren't as big as they used to be, but they're still on the chunky side. The cool thing is that they have huge amounts of storage, big screens, and nice features.
