#******* Users!!!!!

Hi guys and girls

Since the change from webchat, #******* has not been the same at all and heres the deal

You have the chance to pick (5) users to be main OPs (moderators if you like)

and what will happen since I'm too nice and a soft spot we can have a few main members to fix peoples problems and it will stop people always asking about opping all the time

So pick 5 users that you think treat you and others well and I will pick the best out of them and I will be added to make 6

So this will bring out the Newage #******* to a new level

Start the name picking and post below ....and questions ask only me

BlueTape - to soft on others

I would ask to be made an aop again, but since I go to the channel so rarely, it wouldn't make any sense.

There are several people who always do a fine job. I've seen enough mentioned already. It would please me to know they were OPs. Just make sure that you choose enough so that there's normally one in the channel.

i personally dont beleive power segrigation will do anything but cause arguments, i dont mind not having ops, but alot of other users will, and stripping them of op, and giving it to a select few will give them more reason to complain, its impossible to please everyone, and no matter what you imply, nobody will be satisfied, i suggest either leaving it as it currently is, and remove aop from people who mess about too much as punnishment, or those select few who are selected have equal power as the room owner, so if someones banned, they will not run to you instantly bluetape, otherwise, the concept of a select few being opps is flawed.

I stop by #******* sometimes. I wish I knew more about it, and it's especially confusing with all the changes. Recently I had asked about the +o thing and it was explained to me that we all have ops because it was a place of equality. The next time I stopped in though I waited for some time and finally asked to be op-ed. Nobody would, and somebody even asked "Why?" (I don't remember who). It's not that big a deal as I have no real need for any of the commands +o gives me, but after what I had been told it made me feel a little left out so I just logged off.

It's all fun and games, until people lose power.

There is no need for all those +o people. I don't think anything will change. Can't please everyone, or in this case can't please anyone.

If i had to pick, i'd have the place run by the people that have been with the channel since it all began.

Since other current SOP's have voiced their opinion I will do the same.
What I said earlier:
Quote:
What bluetape is doing today is what I've wanted for a long time(he did not decide to do this because i asked it though), IE only a few people to have power over others not to enforce rules but to keep the chat nice and cozy. The forums are run in a very similar way and I feel it is the way to go.
My list of people who I'd like to see in charge(I can't nominate myself, can i ):

Griffinn
Matt

If I had to pick one more it would be pak000 AKA pAk.

Most of us dont visit the chan anymore or stay rather silent..

I'm still almost always in there but I usually don't say much and a lot of ppl prolly hate me for kickign them when they got annoying..

so be it..

but if you are gonna make it a chan with ops and regualers and stuff which I do not think is a good idea, remember this to choose ppl that are there a lot. It's no use if you choose only a few ppl that are hardly there. You should also make sure there's always about 3 ops alive to keep it's controlled so personally if you are gonna go through with this you really need to choose more ops cuz with 5 ppl you aren't gonna cut it..

but this is just my opinion, a #******* veteran who has seen it when it was at it's peak

I know people will hate me for this, but...

I have always felt that in IRC, if you can't deal with not having op power, you shouldn't have had it to begin with. If you're that power hungry, there's too much of a chance that you will use that power for things you shouldn't be using it for. I don't know who all said they didn't want to lose op status, and I don't really care. I know most of the people in #******* now and I like and respect every one of them, so I'm not holding this against anyone, it's just my opinion, and I'm sorry if it offends anyone.

There is no need to have more than a few ops running a channel. The only reason there needs to be more than one or two is that people need to sleep/eat/whatever, so they're not always in there. There should be enough ops that there will be at least one at any point in time.

I've been in several channels on dalnet that have had problems with everyone being an op. There have been takeovers and all sorts of nasty stuff. Mostly because when EVERYONE has power, SOMEONE abuses it. Let's say someone is new to the channel, but they get op status because they've talked to a lot of people and seem to be an okay guy. Someone else comes in, and this person says, "Hey, everyone else has op in here, I guess I can give it to this guy," so he does. The NEW person isn't that good of a guy, and starts causing problems. He starts k/b'ing everyone, or whatever. Everyone points a finger at the first guy, and he gets in trouble. He ends up leaving the channel because of this mistake, thinking the people in #******* are jerks; or in worst case scenario, HE then starts causing problems because he's pissed off about the way he was treated. It's happened before, and it can happen here too.

There are moderators on the forums, and nobody has a problem with that, but when someone suggests the same thing for IRC, it causes an unnecessary fuss.

I feel that the people who have been nominated are very fair people, and would do an excellent job. If they are being nominated, and not begging for sop power, then I don't see why anyone would think they are power-hungry.

I haven't been able to follow this discussion on IRC today because my internet service has been fooked, so if I've said something dumb that doesn't apply anymore, ignore that part.

<edit> I also agree with weedsatan, optimally there should be more than one op at a time, so 5 isn't really enough </edit>

how bout this: Blue stay as Owner.
As for sop's cycle through a list everyday (1 person)
then ops should be decided on whom ever the sop will be for that day
auto half ops could be used, either that or it'll be just another thing like my op idea...
voices should of course be for regualers and no voice for noobs (like what was siad eariler in the thread, put on +m to stop spam/flood and annoying noob's from talking)

Needs more moo-cows.

Matt - always has been sop and pretty much runs the channel besides form taps owner status

griffinn - is alread an sop and is completely different timesone to matt

baafie - would make a good sop and does

I also think seer would be good

Although I think nem is a good guy, I don't think he is good as sop, he is rather hypocritical sometimes when it comes to spamming and banning, Idont' want to offend him by saying this, and i hope no offense is taken, but it isn't a quality you should have in someone running the channel. (if you want a better more sober explaination then feel free to chat with me about ti nem)

can't think of another 5th person, I havn't mentioned blue becuase he is founder so cannot be included as an sop

And On that day, the Lords of the land said unto their Master Architect, "The temple you have made to the gods of Wasabi and Maki has brought us no great prosperity" and they sent out him into the lands.

As he traveled to a far off land, he found he wasn't traveling alone, but that he had gained companions, and when they found their new land, they started work on a new temple, one that would be OPEN to all who wanted to worship.

since the change from webchat we have had pretty much no stupid behaviour. kicking has gone down, flooding is minimal and all round the channell is ALOT better.

making the channel more formal will make it less fun, i go on ******* for fun. why change it from something that everyone is happy with?

In the beginning (of IRC in general), there were just ops and regulars, and that's it.

I believe it's the extra bureaucratic levels added on by webchat (SOP, VOP, UOP) and **** (SOP, HOP, VOP) that's stirring up all the trouble, if any.

I know this won't be a popular idea, but let's get rid of SOPs, HOPs and VOPs. BlueTape2k1 remains our founding father, and then just keep a few (around 10 -- weedsatan is right) AOPs around. This way new people won't need to burn up their brain cells wondering why the SOPs won't make them AOPs etc., because there won't be any SOPs to make those seemingly arbitrary decisions.

Griffinn is right. Those sublevels are losing everyone. I think the system needs to be made simpler rather than to have fewer OPs. Whatever the decision will be though, I recommend Griff for SOP, AOP or anything because the guy knows his stuff.
