DrO Back doing plugins again!

Maybe Winamp can move forward in other ways eg working on quality plugins rather than touching the basic core which is sound?
This sounds promising and maybe will inspire other plugin developers..

Always happy to hear about anyone working on Winamp, in any capacity. I'd be in for a Patreon if he gets one going. I don't know what plugins I need anymore, but I'm happy to help encourage Winamp.

Does it happen only to me, that I get the following message, if I click on the link in the first post?

Not Found

Sorry, we could not find the page you requested

Currently I am sitting at a Linux Computer in the meeting-point (no pub and no internet cafe).

Edit:
I have clicked on "2016" and I have found the text. At least it sounds good.

Just tried again on another computer with Windows, and the text has come.

In the meeting-point there are computers with Windows and Linux.

Okay, one of my uploads on deviantART will explain a little bit more, why Frank and I are so lonely since 1 year. Also our Facebook-Accounts are still sleeping, but they are not dead...

Oh my f**** !
I got half way through the dev post and started to feel faint.
Had to pour my self a rum and roll up something celebratory.

kind of sad, kind of interesting... on the one hand, we don't know if Egg / Vivendi etc will ever put out another official release, although its only fair to point out he says they will or plan to. but its been quite a while now, and so its also fair to ask if they ever will.

i certainly hope they do, and that it keeps its well established ethos alive. (i'd hate to see it screwed up the way yahoo ruined musicmatch for instance).

assuming egg and the gang do get another ver out, that will be the main one, the officially supported one, and its insides will be different from the 3516 ver we have today.

on the other hand, the only real development that seems to be happening at the moment, is what DrO is doing. while nothing is out yet, what he has written is quite impressive. i'm no dev, so perhaps i have it wrong, but this appears to me to be a proposed "fork" of the official current version (3516) going forward, meaning a sub version or alternate version. it also appears to me that whatever else happens with what DrO does, (meaning whatever he develops or however he "wraps" it), it will be around the core of the 3516 code. [i'm assuming he may subtract files or change out one file for another, but he won't actually edit any of the 3516 code/files he ultimately does use for his project]

so lets assume DrO and Egg get their proposed software out.

at that point, there are two competing versions. one ver is official, backed by a corporate entity and one would assume, legal footing. the other is more hobbyist and enthusiast, but more likely to have more in it that users want, from a dev who used to work for the corp.

the enthusiast ver however, for all its advancements and improvements, will forever more be based on the last released 3516 code, using a variety of dev tricks and techniques to allow for the changes and advancements done outside of that code.

over time, assuming both versions see the light of day and are actively developed, they will diverge from each other, and users would have to decide which branch they actually want to use on a daily basis.

it seems reasonable (all other things being equal) to assume the 3516 code will eventually limit the usefulness of DrO's project. that may be years beyond any user interest remains, but its worth pointing out.

however, it also seems reasonable to assume that anything Egg and the corp puts out might be underwhelming, given the lack of development to date. it might lack features that DrO is implementing, (and vice versa).

its also vexing that both might be compelling, and there would be no clear choice.

we shall see i suppose. i find it utterly bizarre however, that a company like Vivendi would buy a brand name like winamp, and let it rot like this. winamp could clearly be a portal to their services, and its a name that even teenagers know today. either hire a dev, or patch things up with DrO, but do whatever is necessary to get something out there. the current situation is inexplicable and counter productive in the extreme.

Nailed it.
Even if Radionomy manages to put out an official Winamp version, if they keep the same pace and lack of interest they showed so far, it'll be the same as nothing. DrO's Update Pack will surely kick their ass (simply because he's actually listening to users and actively working on it, as little and as much as that.. not to mention he loves Winamp XD ).
Radionomy version has some advantage though (theoretically), they can always hire more developers, and / or put some advertising / marketing machine in movement to promote their work and boost production to an unlimited level. But none of that seems to be the case so far.. so what can be different when a version comes out? Let's hope EVERYTHING..

In the end, if both "versions" come out, the one with more dedication and care for the actual product will be the one to survive.. both have different "weapons" to fight for that (and that fight, would be the best that could happen to Winamp users right now..).

Waveform Seeker Update!

This is a must have for Winamp.

Benefits:
Double click the wave when song is stopped to go straight to that part of song
See how compressed a song is
Check if there are any broken bits of your mp3's before it is played live to a crowd
Much easier to move (by clicking) to a part of a song rather than the standard tiny seeker bar on Winamp
See if a song fades out or has an abrupt ending, great for djing
Know where and when the drop occurs in a song
Know where and when a quite part is in a song, perfect for doing a live voiceover or announcement
Mouseover the wave to see the time played/remaining at that point of the song
AND it's damn pretty

Thanks to DrO and Gargaj for this fantastic new version update with added features.
Enjoy.
WINAMP AIN'T DEAD!
