Skins help

Just bought the Pro version. Having problem d/l'ing skins. I don't know WHERE on my PC they go and while it appears that they install to WINAMP, I can't change to them.
I run XP Home on a 2.54Ghz P4 with 1MegMem,450 Gig of HD space DVD burner, etc.

Any help will be appreciated.

(I just HAD to get away from Musicmatch!!!)

Choose Save instead of Open and save them into the Winamp Skins directory (or get a decent browser).

Being a former IT guy, I didn't want to just sit and wait for an answer so, following your lead, I searched on "XP and IE6." One thread suggested deleting Temporary Internet files. I did that, but got real scared 'cause it took so long. Obviously, I had scads of files. Anyhoo....after it was done, d/l'd a couple skins and all is fine.

BTW....just what IS the conflict with XP SP2 and IE6?

IE SP2 renames skins from wsz or wal to zip.

Normally you could choose Open when downloading a skin (or Save and then double-click on it) and it would be installed automatically.

gaekwad2 is correct, but here's a little more info, followed by a "suggestion"

Internet Explorer browser gets all bugged out with downloads, after you've upgraded WinXP to SP2. Microsoft went and messed up something within Internet Explorer that has the browser guessing wrong with MIME types. In the case of skins downloaded from winamp.com, the IE browser often changes the skin extension to .zip instead. There are 2 types of skins that can be downloaded from Winamp.com - Classic (files with a .wsz extension), and Modern (files with a .wal extension). The buggy IE browser probably sees the fact that they are compressed archive files but mistakingly treats them as ZIP files, and renames them with a .zip extension in the process, so that you wind up downloading the skins as ZIP files. Oh... if they're downloaded as ZIP files they'll most likely work when placed directly within your \Winamp\Skins folder on your hard drive, but they are being misnamed by IE, and that's screwed up. That might also screw things up with DrO's great little Skins In Submenu plugin, which probably needs to see the .wal and .wsz file extensions, when differentiating between the 2 different skin types in order to separate them into the 2 submenus.

The thing to do to avoid all this is to completely stop using the slow, sluggish and buggy Internet Explorer browser and to instead download and start using a "real" browser - Mozilla Firefox. You'll never experience IE browser download problems again if instead you use Firefox with it's intuitive built-in download manager, and you'll also have a speedy, full-featured browser that will make browsing more efficient than ever before. I use Firefox and everyone I speak to who tries it will never ever even consider touching the problem-prone Internet Explorer browser again.

anyone else having trouble, (in IE) Tools --> internet options --> delete files.

I have rename the sz file to wsz and its now working properly for me. Thank You for the update ..
