Playlist URL Requires Authentication
I receive an unauthorized 401 error message when trying to connect to an http url from within Winamp. My website is password protected. Is there a way to pass credentials to the web server in order to open this url as a playlist in Winamp 5?
Thanks much in advance! KRV |

What kind of files? MP3 or Ogg Vorbis? Which Winamp version are you running?

5.3, mp3s. Not sure how that is relevant though. I can connect to my site fine if I turn off the security, but that isn't an option. I have also tried to construct an url in the format http://username:password@www.mysite.com. With no luck. :(

![]() I guess your problem is related to missing SSL support. From the Wishlist Streaming https/ssl support planned for a future 5.x release My Winamp Info Report | My Winamp Backup Log | My WACUP Info Report Own Projects: | Winamp Tray Control Icon Pack v3.5.3 | Winamp Backup Tool v3.6.0 | >> Winamp Info Tool v6.1.0 << | German Translations: | Offizielle Deutsche Winamp Sprachdatei v5.66 | Offizielle Deutsche Winamp Sprachdatei Plus Version 5.666 Useful Winamp Plug-ins: | SNESAmp | 64th Note | NotSo FatSo | Highly Experimental PSF Player | Yar Matey! Thanks. I am not interested in SSL support, but you pointed me in the right direction! The wishlist has the line:
Hide username:password@ for url's in playlist This means to me that this syntax should work, albeit with your password in plaintext. Despite this, when I enter an url of a directory on my webserver, I still get unauthorized 401. Hmm, I tried pointing directly to a file but this was unsuccessful as well, although it says "Bad Request". I wonder if my real question isn't can I point to a directory and not a specific song. That wouldn't make much sense to me, but I guess anything is possible, anyone? |

Are there any weird characters in the username or password? (i.e. other than letters and numbers)

The http://username:password@www.site.com/dir/filename.mp3 format should definitely work with Winamp 5.3 and in_mp3.dll (ie. make sure you've not installed some 3rd-party mp3 plugin).
You should also be able to just use http://site.com/dir/filename.mp3 format and be prompted for username:password, as long as you're linking directly to an mp3 file, and not to an m3u playlist (for m3u playlists you need to put the userbame:password in the url). So yeah, other than what's already been said, I'm not quite sure what you're doing wrong. Do you get a username/password prompt in Winamp for this file? http://www.meggamusic.co.uk/music/Pa...Marsmellow.mp3 |
