Winamp 15 years old - history article

Not posted here for ages but I just read this interesting article on Ars Technica about Winamp which is over 15 years old now. (I had a quick search but could not see this a link to thi salready)

http://arstechnica.com/business/2012...-undid-itself/

A great and detailed read about the history of Winamp from some of the early members and what AOL did with it. Thought you might like it.

Yeah, GD isn't the best place to post this. AFAIK most of us don't even use Winamp anymore (MediaMonkey for me).

This is a sig of some nature.

Heh, I still use Winamp to this day. It has worked so darned well since I was introduced to it. I have yet to find anything that really works as well as it does. I don't even own the Pro copy.

It's simple, and easy to use. But I still use the "classic" look as well.

still use winamp here as well, WiMP still isn't up to par and i can't honestly think of a third serious competitor if i'm honest, then again i have to admit lately i find myself using ingame media players instead of winamp a lot of the time.

it isn't that rare is it? i got pretty into APB Reloaded and you can torture people with your music by broadcasting it to those near enough to your vehicle and even get an amp to make it sound horrible and carry farther, honestly i think a lot of games will probably include some sort of media player before long, especially driving ones it seems to be a really popular feature, from what i recall stainless said they'd like to have an ingame media player for carmageddon reincarnation when that comes out too, which frankly would be awesome.

Yeah I played APB for a while, felt more like a game to play with people you know. But I do remember people driving by with music blasting...

I get what your saying, now if the games I played had this and the ability for me to go through the songs with my keyboard control buttons I'd be sold.

yeah premades and good organization in a group is pretty OP in APB for sure, it really is the way to play, sometimes you get PuGs that work too though, honestly i've gotten pretty sick of them lately though, the music player went back to stopping for no reason at random if you set the playlist to loop and reopening it causes a CTD that i've sent at least 100+ crash logs in about with no fix.

fuck that.

oh and for apb, [ ] are the back/forward hotkeys, P opens and closes as well.
