If you own the FACTORY CD Ray Charles' Genius Loves Company, could you PLEASE...

do me a huge favor? Put it in your comp and take a look. My Mother asked me to make a copy of this CD for her and add a song from another CD to it. Well, Genius Loves Company behaves like no other CD I've come across before! I copied the CD fine, but I couldn't add other tracks, because the individual song files do NOT appear in the CD-Rom drive. All that shows up is an mpeg video of some Ray Charles studio sessions. Yes, very cool, but I have never ever seen a CD that dosen't show the song files. So presumably I would have absolutely NO way of having one or two songs from this CD on my hard drive! Now, if the company wished to "block" people from messing with the individual files, what possible reason would they have? I can copy the CD; but I can't copy 1 or 2 or 3 songs? What sense does that make? Furthermore, for me to have NEVER seen this? (Please believe me, I have seen and accessed quite a few CDs in my day) I sincerely you can forgive my rambling on here, but I am perplexed. Curious as to whether every released copy behaves this way. Gather what you can from it and PLEASE let me know the scoop. Thank you SO much in advance!

Wow. Thanks for the help. So sorry I made you read this post when you had no info about it. You will never get that 1 minute of you life back. What a jerk I am.

It's pretty common, actually. Plenty of bands and artists like to put "extras" on their CDs by adding videos and whatnot. To do this, they have CDs that are in both data and audio formats.

If you want to pull individual songs off the CD, you should probably use a program like CDex or EAC to rip them to mp3 format and then burn a compilation of the songs you want.

That's what I'm talking about, Namelessv1. Thank you. Obviously I've heard of CD's having extras, but I meant I never saw ONLY the extra show up and not the song files. But those programs should help me. You have steered me in the right direction. I am indebted to you.

Yes I have come across cd's like this. A Faithless one spring's to mind.

And no you won't see the audio files as there part of the video file, though you can play either in a standard player.

The answer to your problem is to find the software that will pull just the audio file. If it'll run in PowerDVD you can extract the audio as a wav file via there. There is better stuff about, it's just a case of visitng Google ..... though 'majorgeeks' is a good place to start .....

btw - use of the 'Shift' key is a good option when inserting discs like these :whistles:

Almost 96% of all my cds I bought recently are Enhanced CDs. Which, I use iTunes or CDex to rip the tracks I need for my iPod.

Wow! I wish I was as smart as spaceplay so I could make bold text and fancy stuff like that! Don't you have anything better to do than reply to posts you weren't interested in the first place?! I think we SEE who the jerk is, considering everyone else was kind enough to answer my question instead of finding fault with something that doesn't concern you.

Everyone else, I am very grateful for your help.

You got your answer. And yet you continue to sass forum regulars. You claim the insults don't affect you, yet you respond to them.

"Forum regulars"!? So that makes anybody with a higher forum rank than me better somehow? I got my answer, yes; but NOT from the 'major dude' that I was "sassing" (according to you). He started the whole insult thing, so am I supposed to lay back and take that sort of crap because I haven't been here as long? (Incidentally, I don't recall saying "the insults don't affect me". If you actually read this thread, you will see I didn't. Sure, someone insults me, why would I take that personally?)

Beeferoni, Bilbo was trying to help you. His suggestion was the most appropriate way of dealing with a problem stemming from another member. We don't encourage flame wars in these forums and will lock threads that get out of control. Members that continue to violate our rules may also receive temp or permanent banning, or other restrictions. The "forum regulars" should keep that in mind, too.

Try to have a happy New Years everyone,

Once, maybe twice a week (usually after dining at the restaurant that can make 30 different menu items out of 7 different ingredients/Taco Bell) I excrete a beefaroni looking substance from my playdoh factory/output shaft.

Back to the topic at hand:

You know what? You "moderators" (I guess that makes you important) are obviously looking for a way to ice my forum activities, since I did nothing wrong except stand up for myself. So, here it is. FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!

Easy compadre.
I was speaking of:

which has the distinction of sounding just like your username here. A mere coincidence that reminded me of my fecal ways.

Well, now I feel (and look) like an ass. As far as you are concerned, ElChevelle and Gonzotek. I make no apologies to spaceplay or any of the others who think that being "forum kings" or "major dudes" gives them the right to treat me or anyone else with no respect. I retract my statement to the moderators with all humbleness, and I hope my temporary insanity can be overlooked. I guess previous insults just made me over-defensive. Live long and prosper.

let me explain a few things to you.

- you were ranting on about a cd, all i did was point out that if you want to rant about anything , you post this in the forum part called the bitchlist.
this is no Joke and no insult to you directly.
you however took this normal remark as an insult.

it was you that took this post and used it to insult me, the bold texts is not being smart but just a forum function that is there when you quote someone.
all i did was use a part of your text and told you that your self knowledge is allright.
that is called a Joke.

I don't want your apoligies, but it would be nice if you at least try to see things as they are and not flame at others who are not really insulting you in anyway.

Each Thursday a new show on Celtica Radio with Darkwave music.
