No testing has been done for the iPhone. You can try it, though. If the database format is the same, ml_iPod will be able to manage it just fine. If not, then it won't even be recognized. Either way, it can't harm your iPhone to try.

No, it does not work with it. There's not even disk-mode officially from Apple, but there are hackers working on opening it up. Check out their wiki here.

(I don't have one in my possession, but did try a friend's.)

Wow....iPhone's do not even have a disk-mode. HOW GAY! Anyways, iPhone support won't be coming for a VERY LONG time if not at all probably. Donations would have to cover the cost of an iPhone for Abu to begin reverse-engineering it. Thats alot of money. Maybe later...like 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Gen iPhone.

Even if I had the money, they won't be available in Europe for a long time. Apple hasn't given any fixed date yet, but not in 2007, that's for sure...

That is not confirmed yet. It's all rumors so far. It's not official until Apple releases a press release.

Even if it comes out this year, I wonder what the policy will be... In USA, you can only get it with an AT&T contract. Probably something similar will happen here.
I'm living happily with my O2 mobile phone, and I wouldn't want to switch to a different provider just for an iPhone.

iPhone

someone could buy one, cancel the service and mail it to you. and all of the ipod functions would be there. just the phone stuff wouldn't work. if i was rich, trust me i would do it. perhaps we should start donating towards it, i'll put some money in next pay period. because i really would much rather stick with winamp if possible.

That would be super-expensive for the person who did it. These days companies don't give you a phone unless you sign a contract for a year, sometimes two. I'm pretty sure the way those contracts work, to cancel the service early, you'd still owe the one or two years' worth of fees.

fatcerberus1 is right, to cancel the service/contract is a HUGE chunk of change. This is why so many people wait till their contract is up to change providers. Its just not worth it.....way too expensive

Yeah, I believe it's around $175 USD to cancel with AT&T.

What an impertinence! You paid 499 bucks already for the phone, didn't you?

Not me personally; I'd rather wait for a 2nd or 3rd-gen model. But yeah, the phone costs $499 for a 4GB model and $599 for an 8GB model, then you have the contract which you have to pay every month, unless you use the GoPhone (pay as you go) method someone discovered but isn't discussed by AT&T. Cell phones and their carriers suck here in the states.

The sad thing is that beyond the interface, the phone isn't really anything special, and it doesn't have features that a lot of older phones have had for ages.

You can buy the iPhone online from the apple store without a contract. The only problem is you have to activate the phone to use it (un-activated the phone is useless). Fortunatley there are ways to activate the phone without starting a contract or paying a dime:
