Winamp 3 deleted ALL my mp3s!!

Ya, how about making the fucking program not delete any mp3's that are stored in its folder?

I just lost 300 files due to just uninstalling the program. Great fucking feature guys.

dude...sorry but this is the best laugh I've had in a while.

Why would you ever do that, puting your songs in a location like C://My Music is so much better. Sorry but you can plead all you want there would be no compensation.

Sorry Slider, but it's your own fault - the uninstaller did ask if you wanted to delete everything in the directory, to which you must have answered "yes".

Windows convention is that the program files directory is used for program files, and the my music/my documents directory is used for documents and music. Thus if you had put them there, they would have been safe!

They should have a "format your HD? y/n" question during the uninstall. If you choose "n" then you are a good, smart, observant boy...otherwise you are a dumbass who gets what he deserves.

Okay. Hold on.

Let me explain a bit further.

First off, I read all prompts for the uninstaller, and I clicked YES for keeping all the old files. It did keep my sub-folders intact and my skins folder as well.

As for keeping my Mp3's in the winamp folder, it has never been a problem in the past. If I've uninstalled Winamp in the past, it leaves the folder intact.

I've been using a computer for over 10 years, and I'm no newbie or someone who blindly installs shit. It asked me if I wanted to keep my old files. I said 'Yes' and it still deleted anything in its folder.

Now my reason for being pissed off should make more sense.

It would be like you uninstalling Word and it took all your documents with it just because Word utilizes the My Documents folder.

no, no, it still really doesn't make any sense. what would make sense is for you to put your music somewhere in my documents instead of my computer. yes, that seems right, yes.

Theres a reason why microsquash has this folder located at
C:\documents and settings\default\My Documents\My Music
C:\My Documents for those of you who dont use XP
C:\Mp3 for me

I keep all my mp3s on a separate drive, let alone the program folder And why would you uninstall Winamp anyways?

I uninstalled 2.81 and left the plugins/skins just in case I needed something for winamp3.

The default folder winamp is installed to is
C:\Program Files\Winamp

You generally don't mess with stuff in there unless you're using an install/uninstall tool. Only exception is maybe Plucker where you have to modify your homepage for customization reasons.

Hey, if ya treasure your mp3's so much, store then in a completely different logical drive.Install all your software in the windows drive.Today, you blame winamp for deleting your files. If tomorrow windows decides to go to sleep(it usually does) and you're forced to reformat your drive, i'm sure you can't blame winamp for that.

hey, i feel your pain. i deleted kazaa awhile ago and it took ~500 files (stored in c:\mp3) with it.

just because you have my sympathy doesn't mean you aren't a dumbass. wtf were you thinking? did they start putting a tax on every new directory you make? (after the way they jacked cigs up, i wouldn't be suprised...)

as for your argument that back in the day you did it that way... back in the day people used to wipe their asses with corn cobs in uninsulated outhouses, too.

times change. live and learn.

I did that while drunk one night in the good old IBM-DOS 5 days... I'd got back from the pub, and was trying to load "Leaderboard Golf" using the Dosshell, and accidently deleted command.com somehow. It wasn't too difficult to fix, however (when I was sober the following morning) - a simple case of booting from a floppy and copying it back.

I'm not laughing - it's very annoying to lose files.

But firstly, viruses and accidents do happen, so where was your backup? and secondly, it did *ask* if you wanted to delete everything... and you said yes. The program then deletes everything in your Winamp directory. It's not Winamp's fault you choose the "Program Files" directory to store your files in instead of "My Documents/Music" or somewhere...

And Norton UnErase saves the day.

For the ones that had all their files deleted, get an undelete program and you may be able to save at least a bit of the files if the lost didn't happen much time ago...

I just recovered 100% of my MP3s with Norton UnErase Wizard, that comes within Norton Utilies and/or Norton System Works

Oops!
Shit happens.
I lost 300 MP3's because my new pc doesn't have a super disk drive.
Well I still have them on a super disk at least.
Like someone else suggested "burn them to cd."

Thats not a bug, it's a feature!

Winamp3 now has a built-in component that detects shitty music and deletes it from your drive for the sake of humanity!
