Diference Between Stereo and Mono

Is there any difference in music quaility when broadcasting in Stereo compared to Mono? Also does broadcasting in mono use less bandwidth?

I believe that broadcasting in mono does use less bandwidth, but I'm not 100% sure.

It is suggested by those around the forum that if you are broadcasting music at 56kbps or lower, you should broadcast in mono. Contrary to what is usually believed, it will actually sound much better.

just as djmastermind has said, anything lower than 56k should be in mono, cause it sounds better in mono while in stereo, it sounds all muffled up. 64k and up should be in stereo. I run a 64k stream and man does it sound good.

You could always use MP3 Pro aswell.

Well, I would use MP3Pro for 24k streams since its backwards compatible. You can have the Codec installed or ya don't. So, it really doesn't really limit my dial-up audience.

You should use mono if you're broadcasting at bitrates lower than 56kbps. 56kbps is the absolute lowest you can go before losing most of the fidelity. I've tested the quality by trying lower bitrates before and I like it at 56k stereo now:

It's all abhout the Khz, if you broadcast 64k stereo it has to be 22khz, but if you make it mono then it can do 44khz, that is why anything 64k and below should be mono. If you can't broadcast 44khz in stereo at a particular bandwidth then go down to mono if you can broadcast in 44khz at that bandwidth, going down to mono will probably not improve the sound quality much.

I run 56k stereo which sounds good enough no one complains but my 24k stream I run both in mono as well as mp3PRO.
