So I open up winamp and I get this fucking little "winamp 5.55 now avalible" window in my way, no way to close it, no way did I ever say winamp could ever access the internet... just 'oh hi we are going to violate your system! kthxbye!"

FUCK.

I just wanted to listen to music but noooo, I had have to have this thing in my way and undo invasive default settings and restart winamp first...

FUCK YOU AOL!

Whoa, who pissed in your cornflakes? Clam down.

That is completely anonymous and there is no exchange of personal info. You can easily disable the versions check under General Preferences (as you may have already found). Many programs connect to the internet for various reasons. Winamp gives you options as to how when and why it connects to the internet.

Please do not PM me for tech support. Any request for tech support through PM will be ignored.

Some days I just piss in my own cornflakes, just to get it out of the way early .

I wouldn't have minded nearly as much had it given me the option to close the window, but I had to restart winamp just to close it.

And after posting I fully expected this to be moved to the bitchlist .

[edit]I know many programs do it, and each and every one annoys me, but all others I have encountered before will allow you to dismiss the window.[/edit]

Odd, you should be able to close the Window. As part of providing tech support I have several older versions of Winamp on my system and from time to time will start one of them to check things. I don’t recall not being able to close the update notice Window.

That update check is there since the good old Winamp 2.x days.

The issue with the window is bad, but that you moan about such an old option and this with a really evil posting isn't nice.

[embarrassed]
...I must have been in a bad mood yesterday.
It's entirely possible that I couldn't close it because of the skin I was using: hm_Touch_M. I can't test because when I turned the option back on and switched to the 'winamp modern' skin the window never came up.

You know, I have had Winamp set to check for new versions at startup and it has never notified me, ever. Might as well turn it off rather than have it spin its wheels. Winamp is excluded in Windows Firewall.

Probably conflict with some plug-in maybe.

Next time that happens, just hit Ctrl+F4
