Winamp Installer freezes upon "Checking if internet available" - help please? TY!

I've tried about 3 times now to install the latest version of Winamp, and everytime the installer checks for internet availability, the entire process halts. The installer has been saying "checking if internet available" for about 20 minutes now... last time I waited a good 30 minutes before finally exiting out.

Anybody else experiencing this issue? How can I overcome it? I have no previous versions of Winamp on my computer, btw. Thanks for the help!

Bumping only a little over an hour since your first post?
LOL. Expect a reply in these forums from the volunteers (yes - everyone who posts here is a volunteer) within the same day, maybe the next day.

Regardless, a few things to check...

1) Make certain that you disable/remove any 3rd-party authored plugins (anything that is NOT on this list) first, and then see if the problem persists. Actually, a clean install would be best.
2) System specs will also be helpful

In reference to "everytime the installer checks for internet availability, the entire process halts"...

Make sure you have a solid internet connection...

1) If on a LAN make sure your DNS settings are correct
2) Make sure that your proxy settings are correct (if using a proxy)
3) Empty your internet cache and delete all offline content as well, and then try installing again

In addition to the above...

1)You may have downloaded a corrupted installer. Disable any download managers you may be using and right-click on this link for the installer file for Winamp 5.5 Full and "Save As" or "Save Link As" or "Save Target As" (depending on what browser you are using)
2) After doing the above, try and run the installer again

*Addendum... temporarily disable any firewall you may be using and try running the installer again

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.

In addition to Nunzio390's help and along the same idea of the Firewall suggestion....

In the past there have been reports of anti-popup/adware apps causing this issue. If you have one running, you may want to try temporarily disabling it or if it has a ignore list try adding the Winamp installer to it.

Please do not PM me for tech support. Any request for tech support through PM will be ignored.

Just run the installer in "Safe Mode with Networking" and it will not get stuck in the "Checking if Internet is available" part... Then just restart back to Start Windows Normally and you got Winamp. DONE!

Hmm, it'll probably be a firewall-related issue.
What software firewall are you using?
Have you tried adding the winamp5601_*.exe installer to exceptions or allow list in the firewall config?

However, Winamp has already installed by the point where it checks if internet is available.
The internet check is related to updating required system components like DirectX d3d (for Milkdrop vis & fullscreen video osd) & Windows Media Codecs,
or for downloading the mp3 files if you downloaded the mp3 bundle installer.

I've a feeling that the installer does the internet check even if nothing is required to be downloaded, in which case I'll see if we can change that.

What happens if you double-click %ProgramFiles%\Winamp\winamp.exe, does it open ok?
Does the Setup screen appear?

I have. Still no luck.

The Winamp folder opens, but no winamp.exe. I've tried typing %ProgramFiles%\Winamp\winamp.exe into the "Run" box, but get "Windows cannot locate file".

Hmm, very weird.

Any other security software running? AV, anti-spyware, script-blockers, etc?

Is there anything in the Winamp folder?

I FINALLY got Winamp 5.61 installed after I did a System Restore back to September. Basically a "Hail Mary" pass since I was out of ideas other than doing a full system recovery(basic recovery, which was how I got the new Winamp installed on my HP desktop, doesn't seem to be available on an Asus netbook).
