the keyword was 'probably', i.e. it's an estimate, not a definite.

hmmm, not sure, lol.
News thread... read the first few posts, then go to the end and read it backwards.
Surely that's what most people do, right?

Some people just don't bother reading, they just make a new account and spam n grief about how their lives are some how empty without Winamp, even though it hasn't gone anywhere or complain about Radionomy not being very vocal. It's the main reason for changing my signature every time there's something new in hopes that the lost, the tired and the uninformed may find what they are looking for or a post shedding some light on it.
BTW thanks for breaking the rules of ***** **** @DJ Egg

Thanks for all the info! Regarding MikMod, libmikmod is actually LGPL as I checked, but I totally understand the reasons to change to OpenMPT. OpenMPT even sounds better, so good idea to change to it! I just..... got accustomed to the playback "failures" of MikMod on some of my MOD files But I'll get used to the correct behavior as well

The treatment of the AAC & MP3 encoders and decoders sounds great too.

Also that the Classic skin remains the same (yeah!) and Bento is still included. The most universal and best skins.

Regarding a new skin reflecting the change: what about including an additional, new skin in the new "Flat" design, seen in Windows 8 / 10, and also on the Radionomy web pages? Maybe something with "tiles"

But, actually, that's not so important and could really be done by the community maybe. I'll continue using the Classic and the Bento skin anyway

Best and happy regards,
kzuse

Re: Pro / encoders
We won't delete lame_enc or enc_fhgaac on upgrades, only on uninstallations.
On clean installs, lame_enc will need to be downloaded separately....
That's not a problem for most users. the lame encoder files are openly available for download on the internet.

The BIG question will be where does the lame_enc.dll file need to end up living?

Will it be the main program folder or the plugins directory?

Maybe.
Who likes scrolling through pages and pages, looking for info?

That's the whole point: minimal information is buried in this 30+ page thread.

On this forum, a read-only news thread dedicated to the development progress of "Winamp by Radionomy" does not exist.
The pertinent thread on the Radionomy forum has not been updated since April 2014.

I understand that Radionomy has no obligation to provide information of any kind.
But some would say that it's a smart business decision to keep customers/users well informed.
Scrolling backwards through thirty pages is not user friendly.

I am very happy about the choice of OpenMPT as it is the one I currently use.
An XMP/BASS variant would have been the only other option worth looking at.

Q: Will Radionomy provide the team with resources to develop a 64bit version ?

Please consider using the Last.fm API internally like Spotify and some other players do.
Spotify do not consider it a threat to their cash-flow, so neither should Radionomy.
Winamp has the potential to outlive any company that owns it, and a history/chart system that can exist outside that eco-system is important.
We remember the shambles of the AOL orgler, and it makes no sense to fragment the chart systems, or they become pointless and inaccurate.

Feature Request

Hi Winamp team, I was wondering if you can-
1.) Add support for importing eq files for Winamp for Android from the desktop version.
2.) Add the option for choosing specific decibels for the eq sliders (double or right click/ tap and hold for prompt)(for Android & Desktop).
3.) Use last.fm tags for playlist generation, showing the tags associated with the songs you have and showing the number of songs you have associated with each tag next to the tags in parenthesis eg. Alternative (247) -and doing the same for songs by similar artists eg.
deadmau5 (363) -without using a last.fm account.

The last one is because Microsoft bought zikera for the rights to use the name of their app "Groove" then made it so the app no longer functioned, kind of makes you wonder what they would've done with Winamp

A moodagent alternative would be nice too

Hey StreetWalker did you find a workaround to the library sorting issue? I have the same issue with 64-bit W10 with same WinAmp configuration as you.

I'd guess the typical audio formats would be supported out of the box? (the post only mentions MP3 and AAC, but hopefully it'd extend to ogg and flac?)

Well I sure as hell had no doubts it existed once I saw the post of DJ Egg trying it out...

Actually I am not sure why I am so anxious for a new version, I can't even use the most recent version of Winamp because of ml_ipod :| Maybe by then my 7 year old ipod will finally die

I assume there won't be any noticeable differences, I'm mostly waiting for an update for Winamp for Android since I broke free from iOS. That post was just for the people who wanted some proof, I'm sure there are plenty out there.

I am a user of WinAmp for 15 years now and the main reason is a WinAmp plugin which is still developed and maintained: StereoTool

http://www.stereotool.com/

Its a freeware (with additional commercial options) singleband+multiband limiter/compressor with stereo enhancement, AGC and sound repair processing. It pretty much does what professional sound processors for radiostations do. Because it features a WinAmp plugin it allows me to play my music tracks from different sources with various quality through WinAmp processed with this plugin, and out comes a steady stream with a good to high quality sound.

I use the "Maximizer Dry" setting from these settings that you can load into the plugin:

Do you guys think in hindsight it was a better idea to OPEN SOURCE winamp? Besides being slow developing the new devs are not very interactive with the community in the days of social media. I think if winamp was open sourced we would have a build by now.

You'd think so, but, and correct me if im wrong, wasabi.player, the winamp3 version that was open sourced, pretty much died.

The question has been raised before and numerous discussions followed within these forums. It simply would not work. Winamp has got new owners now and it would not make sense as a business case. Opensource is not a magical remedy. Not all open source projects are successes.

Be patient: the devs are working at it. I am also eager to see the new winamp but the current one is working fine. I got Yasapi plugin recently in fact and it is working wonders.

Radionomy's ceo did say he wanted to branch out to new platforms, so who knows. BTW I noticed that the iPhone 4 was very low fidelity when compared to my lg risio (cheap) which makes 128kbs vbr m4a's sound like junk(when on the iPhone sounded closer to 256kbps mp3's). Also, why would ios need Winamp? The music player plays every the format the phone can handle, for it to play anything else it would have to be jailbroken. So I doubt it, though there's already a radionomy and shout cast app + (the god awful) tunein app.

I never really respected Apple's hardware when it comes to sound, they seemed to always cheap out on them. My ipod classic (120GB) for example seems to suffer around the mids.

But still regardless, it would be nice to see Winamp penetrate more markets and get it's name known (or remembered)

The Ultimate Media Library Plugin

Blackhalo recommends this plugin. It looks like a very useful one.

Ultimate ML Plugin:
http://winampheritage.com/mlplugin/i...p?p=umlp-about

BUT
Norton checks it, flags it as unsafe and deletes it.

I had wanted to check out this add on.

However, using Windows shares it is quite easy to navigate to networked USB drives and NAS drives and play both files and folders.

So, it is not worth downloading and installing it if it poses a risk.

Thank you Winamp

I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone involved in keeping Winamp alive, both past and present. As a wedding DJ, it is the ONLY media player I have ever trusted over the years with these very important occasions.

• The auto crossfade feature is invaluable to mobile DJs
• Responds instantly to commands i.e. double-click a playlist entry for instant playback
• The skins are clean, clear, uncluttered and colour changeable
• Allows multiple instances so I can run two separate players through 2 mixer channels, ideal for PLF
• The sound quality when combined with USB digital audio is second to none
• Never any distortion which is important when running through expensive professional speakers
• Can default to ‘enqueue when clicked’ to auto load songs from explorer into current playlist
• Has beautiful visualisations which can run on a second monitor/projector screen
• Full support for karaoke files on a separate monitor
• Is so damn robust and reliable (until Windows 10 came out, that is) that I will quit DJing if I can’t use it

Also a big shout out to @DJ Egg whose support posts have saved me many times over the years, thank you for your professionalism. If and when a new pro version comes out, I will be first in line to purchase it.

Thanks guys, sorry for the ramble but Winamp is the heart and soul of my DJ work

Been using it for about 15 yrs.
I'd be curious as to how many people out there Do DJ with Winamp

Winamp - Easily the best PC music player

BIG thanks from me as well!

Despite changing through the various windows systems upgrades, Winamp has remained on my desktop since +- 1999.

Why? Every other player I have tried, over the years, has something different missing that Winamp included by default. I also love how easy it is to use and how well the features work.

My wishlist would be:

1) live physical view of your music media to open/play files.
2) media library keeps live track of the above and allows you to easily see what has been played or liked/Favorited with sort options based on those. I know the library does this to some point but it could be improved I think.

Thanks guys! seriously looking forward to the new Winamp :>
