Return of the King (possible spoilers)
OMG who has seen it? i went to the midnight showing, didnt get home till almost 4am, but it was so worth it.
This thread is for everyone to discuss their thoughts on the movie. I thought it ruled. It was almost three and a half hours long, but after seeing it, they could have easily made it into a 4+ hour movie. I am eagerly awaiting the extended edition. ![]() |

yes bilbo. the extended hopefully will have that. i read somewhere, the original cut was something like 4.5 hours.
i am so proud of myself, i sat through the whole thing. probably because before it started, i went to the bathroom like 3 times. it was a great movie. when the extended comes out, im going to sit down and watch all three in one day. i think if i view them all in a row, it will enhance the overall view. im going to see it again tomorrow, have to take my gf and my bro, cause i wouldnt let them come to the midnight showing with me... ![]() |

Went to the 3:45pm showing on December 19th, 2003.
Yus! It went along very well. Although....read the book before criticizing it! Thx. ![]() Many of my friends came with me, huge theatre! Heh. I loved it, and it was the first time I actually went to an opening day. Hmm, guess I'm paying good ol' Time Warner my $5.75 for my seat in the theatre. ![]() |

went to the midnight showing on tuesday (advance screening). It was cool, but there was a lot of Frodo vs Sam shit that made me think of gay porn. The touching, the shirtless Frodo prone on his back with Sam standing over him. I was tired so I wasn't seeing it in full perspective. Not that there's anything wrong with the gay community or anything, I am just a little weirded out when there are long dramatic shots of guys whispering and grabbing each other.

It was a great movie. Really, really good. Not quite as good as the first two, because the story was a lot more disjointed. However, still really, really good.

The BEST movie I've seen in a long time, hands down. Like Bilbo said, the scenes with the Undead were some of the best scenes, and the comic relief between Gimli and Legolas were comical to say the least. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD, then it's going to be somewhere past the 4 hours mark. So...Five thumbs up:

![]() Anyways, that was a very good movie. A bit much on the over extended death scenes over and over again like seems to be popular now. The part I liked most was Spoiler: the fact that the ring even corrupted Frodo in the end and prevented him from destroying it. The fact an artifact of that power can pretty much only be destroyed by accident kicked ass. I think I'm gonna dig out the books again and try to muster my attention span long enough to read them again. |

i think the film is brilliant. and i think that purists who would've liked to see a "truer" version should at least try to consider how shit such a film would have been.

Awesome movie. I've read the books, and I'm of the opinion that a little bit TOO much was cut out... like what happens to Theoden? Do they leave him to rot on the field? How come Eowyn's not all sad at the ending...? And how come Faramir is suddenly magically well at the end? Oh well, that's what the Extended Edition is for, right?

The ending was long and cheesy, but then so was the book's. Yes, he left out pretty much half the book, but I think he's justified in what he cut (certainly, I don't think the scouring of the Shire would have worked in the film). To be honest, the book is not the greatest literary work (contrary to what viewers of a certain british TV program say), and I think in a way Jackson was going to get criticism however he adapted the book. How little criticism he actually got is a testament to how well he did it.
The set of Minas Tirith was breathtaking, the cinematography was incredible, in general the plot and screenplay was very good. Some scenes were quite scarily close to how I'd imagined the book. It's really hard to rank the film amongst the other two of the trilogy. But the trilogy will certainly be incomparable for a good while to come. All I shall say is over three quarters of IMDB voters have given this film a 10 (unheard of), and that I shall be joining them. For long you live and high you fly, but only if you ride the tide, and balanced on the biggest wave you race towards an early grave. |Musicbrainz|Audioscrobbler|last.fm| |

I do not think that the books ending was cheesy, it was bittersweet. Yes the war had been won, but at what cost?

Cheesy? In what way? I'm not quite sure I understand. =)
While it's hard to gauge with absolute certainity what Tolkien had in mind when he wrote the Lord of the Rings, it's mentioned multiple times that with the passing of the One Ruling Ring, the power of the three Elven rings--Narya, Nenya, and Vilya--will also pass. Even though Sauron might be defeated, Middle Earth can't go back to what it once was. It was the power of the Elven rings that preserved Lothlorien and Rivendell, and now that their power is gone, the elves cannot remain in Middle Earth for any longer. As for the scouring of the Shire, it's also another symbol of how the past can't always be reclaimed. Even though the primary source of evil in Middle Earth has been destroyed, it has spread and the hobbits can't just go home to a peaceful rest. Even after all that is said and done, and the wicked Men are expelled, some things are just never the same. Despite the victory, scars will always remain. |

I didn't want to start a whole new thread about it so I'm posting it here since it has something to do with the ROTK...there have been over 50 mistakes found int he movie, you can go here for a list and description of all of them. I found it quite interesting sicne I didn't notice any of htem myself.
Mistakes or not, the movie was great! ![]() Mia ![]() |

chev's giberish in english, translated faithfully by a robot:
Spoiler: 16 of January, 2003 Hace was released Lord not much of the Rings: The Two Towers and already I have been with which it will appear in éra part of the trilodge of LOTR, if you have not leido books and/or you do not want to know something, although is a detail from which one comes in the next film, better you do not follow. Sailing in the site of Andy Serkis (from post of Antonio), the actor behind the movements and a little the personality of the digital personage Smeagol/Gollum, I found a photo of a scene in where a passage in the evolution is observed (return) of Smeagol it will have in this one third part. ![]() |
