Winamp update broke Firefox

WinXP Home, Firefox 3.5.6 (now 3.5.7), Winamp 5.57

Problem: Winamp installer closed my browser (with several tabs open) without first asking permission. Restarting Firefox, all I got was a Winamp page on the only tab instead of my previous session plus that tab. I then noticed that Winamp had CHANGED my previously set homepage. I saw nothing in the installer warning that browser settings will be changed, or asking permission to do so.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO US!!

Since then I've also noticed that Firefox usually no longer remembers the previous session tabs to restore them on a restart. I have tried disabling the restore session setting and reenabling it but that doesn't help.

WinXP Pro, Firefox 3.6, Winamp Pro 5.572

Problem: Winamp and Shoutcast toolbars do not work. I have no other add-ons, just java. Firefox crashes only when I click on Options in Add-on window. After reopening firefox I am able to uninstall toolbar.

Is it possible to fix this problem by changing firefox settings?
